Apologies for what I am sure to many of you will be a straightforward question but...
I was out today taking shots for the red challenge. Kept camera on the same recording pixels and compression all day yet when I got home and downloaded my file sizes range from 138kb to 3000kb.
Question: How do I resize these to make the size valid for competition without
a - Ruining the quality of the picture I shot
b - Keeping within the editing rules
I do not have photoshop. When I download pics I do this via Windows (the disc that came with the camera does not seem to want to play ball in terms of downloading pics).
Again apologies for what questions which will no doubt have you slapping your head and exclaiming 'just how stupid can some people be'
(In my case I fear the answer may be very)
Thanks in advance

What image editing programs do you have at your disposal?

You'll need some sort of image editing software. I don't think the plain old Window's viewer will let you do anything beyond rotate. If you don't have Photoshop, let us know what image editing options you do have (there are some free options out there if you don't have anything at this point). |

Google Picasa is a pretty handy photo organizer that also has some basic editing tools. Resizing images is pretty simple as well.

I'm not familiar with Zoombrowser so I have no idea what it's capabilities are. It would seem to me that bundled software should be able to resize, but I make no guarantees, with a name like Zoombrowser, it could be just a browser. I set my mom up with Picasa a while back and she seemed pretty happy with it. In addition to basic editing, it's got some fun creative options. I don't have it installed on my machine, so I can't tell you how to resize in it, but I'm sure someone here can. |

OK...A couple of things here
1. THANKS to everyone who is actually taking the time to reply. You genuinely have no idea what it means to someone who loves photography but up until recently had been nothing more than a point and click kinda guy. I have to say that this sort of help has me thinking I really should get ahead and pay for full membership.
2. I have downloaded picasa and managed to resize a photo!!!
The only problem now is that having looked at the entries for the first red competition I realise that mine may be fairly poor...Hey but I like them and isnt that what matters
Thank you again
Very much appreciated, may the skies be as clear for you for the lunar eclipse as they are here

Good, you got Picasa working. I just checked out Zoombrowser and I couldn't find a way to resize with it.
Just a word of precaution, make sure not to save over your original file with the resized, or otherwise modified version.

I dont think you can overwrite your file in Picasa, not with the default settings, anyway. It always saves the files to another location.

It appears to rewrite to another file automatically, but thanks for the tip anyway
