Hey, I resemble that remark... oh wait, I'm not even clever. Sorry for the blandness! ;P

That's one thing I try to do is photograph different things. If you look at my profile page, all of my top shots are of something different. The scores are not good but I'm trying to attempt different things. Who knows, one of these days I may get lucky and get a 6 again!

...and vice versa, which reminds me of this quote:

I personally think that the 1 and 2 voters give out those 1's and 2's for the simple reason that your picture is better than theirs.

Look at any of the winning pictures. They all seem to have some 1, 2 and 3 votes. I'll bet some vote just out of spite.

I deal with that by not having clever ideas any more.

It's hard to argue with a 6.6 score for chucking a bit of fruit in a bowl of water. Zero effort, maximum return ;)

I'm tired of "Woodies" "Duckies" and "Cannon Beach". I've seen enough of them to last me a life time.

Actually, I tried the splashing thing once but probably won't again because I know people are getting sick of it.

exactly why we so much of the same stuff. why not try it and get a decent score. A really accomplished DPC photographer has done roughly the same shot 6 times getting over 6.4 5 of those times with a few ribbons. their portfolio shows that this isn't even their style really but why not break it out when they need a great score. as long as things do well people will shoot them.

Bring it on. The more jaded we get the greater the appetite for something fresh.

I don't think people are getting sick of splashs. It's a very difficult shot to reach, and it only works when you catch the moment.

Ask IreneM. She will tell you how many shots you need to get only one good.

Splashing water, duckie, and beach - all in one. With this shot I was able to get all of them out of my system

I donno... we're not seeing a lot of duckies and woodies anymore, and a whole LOT less of Cannon Beach now that Thomas ( Zoomdak) is off at college. I predict a mini-comeback for the duckies and woodies :-)

Seriously, I think it takes a lot of skill to use duckies and woodies in a meaningful way. The best of those shots are very fine indeed. When you can pull an emotion out of the viewer via a "cartoon character", you've accomplished something in my eyes.

And then, of course, there are Woodie masterpieces that will live forever in the hearts of all true-blue DPCers, such as this one:

Robt.

Personally I tire of this or that at one time or another. Sometimes I bore even myself. There is a difference, however, between being disgruntled, and expressing your disgruntlement. Not every true and honest expression need be communicated. Sometimes keeping your own good counsel is appropriate.

Also, I like to have a general rant section, but don't see I'm tired of... comments as being appropriate for an individual photo (as such expressions are really based on sentiment fueled by a mass of photos).

2-cents.

The first time I ever tried a photo with a duck in it I got this comment -

Lose the plastic duck. IMO it adds nothing to the photo and its not funny anymore. Sorry.

I was a little hurt because he dissed my image due to his fatigue of duck images, but hey, everyone has one, don't they? :D

agreed. it really does make it much more refreshing when you see something new. unfortunately you sometimes have to dig for those as they often miss the front page.

He, he, I like that attitude :)

I wonder sometimes if those who try to convince the masses to be more unique (or creative or artistic, or what-have-you) have really thought it through. If the masses suddenly started fitting your description of more unique or artistic, what might that do to your self-perception? Personally, I revel in the few things that I consider unique about myself. Perhaps unconsciously I want the masses to stay just as they are (let me have my bit of uniqueness), but more probably I think I really don’t care much what others choose to do. Wanna shoot ducks? Go right ahead. I might not applaud your efforts, but I don’t really care for you to become anything more like meâ€Â¦

I'm wrong, but I still feel it was the right thing to say.

One of my best selling stock images is a duckie.

People seemed to like this one, although it's not a "typical" splash. :-)
