I am off to the UK for 12 days. I am taking a video crew and I am the Associate Producer ΓΆ€“ i.e. field grunt, grip, gaffer, best boy, POC, etc.
I had my camera and personal bag all planned out ΓΆ€“ North Face backpack (with laptop inside) and LowePro Nova 4 AW. I have the monster LowePro Stealth Reporter AW, but that will not allow as much other personal gear to be carried as the other arrangement and it is so huge ΓΆ€“ I really have to squeeze to get it under airline seat and I refuse to put it overhead. First few days will be tubes and trains in UK so I need convenience and safety.
Just found out that video team now needs me to carry part of an HMI kit so I am going to have to dump one of my own carry-ons. I am insane for buying so many camera bags, but it looks like a need another one and fast.
Any UK travel advice and recommendations on bags? I am looking at the LowePro CompuRover AW Backpack or the Tamrac Adventure 9 Backpack. I am planning on taking: Canon body, 28-75mm, 17-50mm, 70-200 mm, 430EX, lightsphere, Kata camera raincoat, plus all the little junk. Chargers and power converters will have to go in checked bag I guess.
All input is greatly appreciated.

You might want to look at the Think Tank line of airline carry-on bags.

Thanks all for you input so far. Just to re-cap, I need ONE bag that will allow me to carry: gear mentioned in original post, laptop, and stuff like wallet, passport, iPod, phone, eye-glasses, book, jacket, and off course a big bag of black licorice!
Any other safety tips from you UK folks are also appreciated.
Thanks again.

A computrekker AW should carry all that gear with plenty of room to spare. I usually fit in a 70-200F4L, 17-40F4L, 1DII body, 50mm 1.4, 100mm2.8 macro, laptop, spare external harddrive, ipod, DS, batteries, book etc without problem when traveling. Along with other gubbins like water bottles and the like on external pouches. All fits under the seat.
The computrekker Plus AW is even more bag.
You can see pictures of them with lenses in to give an idea of how much they can hold.

From Southampton to Edinburgh. Should be a wild and crazy trip. |

Sweet! Get me a few shots of the acropolis in Edinburgh. I did the typical tourist thing and went to the castle and I could see the acropolis from there. Apparently its a really great photo op during sunrise/sunset. Plus you can get great shots of the castle from there!
But then you're on business so you might not get a chance... :(
Anyways, bagwise, I'd concur with the thinktank stuff from what I've read on them.

Sara from what I have heard about the cost of items over there I would love that drink. I am also guessing from the map that I will be passing very near by York. However, by that time there will be nearly 12 of us and that could get rather pricey I imagine. I do appreciate the offer though! |
