LOL.
this thread reminds me of a time when I was between jobs and worked on a building site.. This *BIG* guy was using a disk-cutter to cut bricks/slabs etc, that kinda of thing inside the shell of a house. Anyway, the cutter as you can imagine was throwing up loads of fine dust into the air and the light streaming through the windows made these wonderful rays of light, it was a photo screaming out to be taken.. anyway, not one to think about what I say (no really) I said to the hugely muscled builder.

"That light coming in through the windows and highlighting your muscles looks really nice, I would love to take a photo of you like that.."

Not quite sure how I got out alive..

The guy Zaf was talking about, //www.photo.net/photodb/member-photos?user_id=2231437&include=all ΓΆ€”

Oy... He REALLY has some light... That's some stunningly atmospheric work. Is it natural? I have no idea. Some of the shots seem to be montages. But he's working in India, and in general they have a lot of dust in the air I think...

Some great images in there but for the most part a lot of the volumetric light in the images look painted in...

maybe you how it is painted? I also have a feelig it's all painted, but how does he do that? just a paint brush? I believe there must be something more sophisticated:) it would be really great to find it out.

oh i could not agree more i would love to find out how he did it, as i said earlier i tried contacting him , in vain :(
althought i tried simulating that effect in photoshop with more or less of a success.

i added a layer of basically white triangle from the top left, and surrounded by black, i used soft light for blending , and then guassian blur till everything blends in.(idnic's move the light technique modified)
i added some shadows using the same technique.
and then i used paint shop pro clarify filter at 20.
still needs tweaking but other pictures are coming out closer to that we've seen on his website.
