So if you havent heard yet, Canon has announced their first DSLR this year, It will be called the Canon EOS-1D Mark III. The highlights of the camera are: 10 mp full frame sensor and 10 fps capibility. Also Has a new generation DIGIC III chip for processing.

New Canon DSLR

I have a 20d and was wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to this from it, sounds more expensive than th 5d also and less stuff for more $$$. Trying to decide where to go from current position, Do I want a few new lenses and keep my 20d? Save and get the Mark II? Settle and Get the 5d? Or settle and get this and new lenses?

Thanks
Rich

If I could choose, I would go for the "settle & 5D" option :)

Depends on what you're shooting. For sports, that Mark III is gonna be a killer machine. For weddings, I love my 5D.

I do not shott much sports, maybe only drag racing and that is mostly for myslef, I would still own the 20d for this. I am mostly a landscape and wedding kind of guy myself.

That sounds like a 5D job -- especially since it boasts a full-frame sensor, allowing for wide-angle.

The 5d would probably be a better camera for those applications.

The new Canon actually isn't a full frame camera. The sensor is APS sized but slightly larger than every other APS sensor. This will give the MkIII a crop ffactor of 1.3 instead of the usual 1.5 or 1.6.

One of the best new features for this camera is the live view LCD. Not only great for macro shots in awkward positions, but also allows the photographer to focus more accurately than with just the optical viewfinder as you can enlarge the view 5x or 10x and see exactly what's being focused on. And this is on a 3.0 inch screen !!!! Can you imagine the view?

In addition, the live view LCD allows for remote operation allowing the photographer to control settings and seeing real time sensor images from far away. It's also great for long exposures as it uses MLU to reduce mirror vibration.

Live view will only work with manual focus. But with 10x enlargement is should probably be ok. But for real remote work you cannot adjust focus from a distance.
