The site //www.dailyawards.com does not come up as of this morning. The "main" server page comes up. Does anyone know if it is just down or "down and out"?

I was on the site about 2 hours ago. Sometimes the site gets taken down for modifications. I would just check back later.

Still down....I guess the competition was too much for them ;-)

Looks like the site is down again. It has been offline for about 18 hours. This may be the end !!!!!!

I can't get on the site either! Is the site out of business? I would think they would send an email or some notification of this out.

I was kind of starting to like the site. More "easy going" than DPC but not as competitive. I learn lots more here at DPC. Forums are much better here.

Also...they owe me 6 bucks ! I signed up for 3 months for 9 bills and have two months left !!

Oh well....Long live DPC.

I don't have any information about the downtime, but it's possible the owner is simply migrating to a different server to accommodate growth and new features. Sometimes, the contest website is taken down for modifications.

When migrating to a new server, it can take 48 hours before the internet registries and indices redirect us to the correct IP address.

And, another speculation.... there was a terrible ice storm in the middle parts of the country yesterday. May be a power outage problem at the hosts location.

I'd give dailyawards.com some time, before declaring its demise.

I suspect what Richard ( hahn23 ) says is true. Elston must be incommunicado or he would have sent something out to the site participants which he has done in the past.

;) I didn't know they had any competition. Could you post the URL, I'd like to try them out. LOL

Just tried the page myself. The 404 was instantaneous. That doesn't indicate a site outage to me. It's either a server change or it's out of business and delisted. Interesting site but forum activity had dropped from low to almost nothing lately.
Always an ego booster for me as some of my images did very well there. ;)

From a reliable source... it appears the host company had a server integrity problem. Currently, the hosting company is rebuilding the server, after which the website will need to be rebuilt and the database restored. Probably a day or two to get back up on the internet.

Sometimes, these things happen! It's the nature of the internet environment. Not a business viability problem! It's a server down situation.

I do like the site. However, when commenting on shots be prepared to get users bashing you over your vote if you vote below a 7. After you leave your vote, the photographer can request a "critique"...I've left constructive remarks only to be called an idiot and a "bevis"!!! Other than that, I like the site.

I get tired of the critique request thing. I don't use it myself. I find several users there will request a critique on just about every vote I make on their images. I think that's because it's a paid option and people want their monies worth. ;) I've only had one person get upset with my critique. I got several emails from them but I just ignored them and they went away.
Good to hear from Hahn they will be back.

I really like the Daily Awards site, as it gives me an ego boost when I score badly here :-) My photos on average score at least a point higher over there, but I also have learned to be very wary with comments. When I first joined I left an honest comment on someone's photo that it lacked interest (it was totally out of focus and had no subject). The person got so mad I got several e-tirades, even after I went through the person's profile and found several images on which I left compliments. Buyer beware.

You are right on this comment....even constructive comments are frowned upon by many at dailyawards.

Well...as my wife can tell you...I haven't been wrong since 1987 but I was wrong on this one.

...the site is back up.

Yes - it's back :)

(and that's good because I've won a lot of ribbons there but none here)
