Maybe another interesting permutation would be 3 ribbons and average under 5.8 or something. Highest scoring and least consistent :)

What about only blue ribbon winners? A challenge that lets all of the first place winners from the past duke it out?

I think, consistent good placing is more important for qualifying as a master. For example, an average of 6+ along with a participation in 50+ challenges?

I wonder. Does that penalise those who take risks and try to do interesting things ? e301 and jjbeguin would for example fail on those criteria.

Jus tone of three examples I gave. Didn't check out, who falls under this criteria. You can set any number you like...

We should definitely have the Inconsistency Masters Free Study. You wouldn't know what to expect next!

Just be sure to define it in a way that I qualify...

I was going to post something about the Masters Free Study being a tradition at DPC, but went to check what number we are up to. One! There has only been one, and that was back in 2004. Yes I read all the objections, from those who cared about score received deviations, 'unfairness', etc. But to not hold another one because of the 'naysayers' is just, well, pretty sad.

If most of us here enjoy seeing the work of talented photographers, what is wrong with having an 'elite of DPC' Challenge? Yes, the main way we choose 'the elite' are by scores in Challenges, voted by their peers.

For the record, I'm also all for different types of 'special member Challenges', but that is another 'challenge suggestion'. The Masters challenged those who had 'hit the DPC top'. I can only imagine that it would have been exciting for them to have an opportunity to compete at that level.

The Masters was an excellent idea in the first place, a great DPC initiative (don't know by who, but I like to think the brainchild(s)), stay true to those ideas. That's how DPC was born!

PS
And, it would be good to see the little ribbons (and maybe we need more of those too) next to the names of photographers in the Photographer Profiles section. I went to see who might be eligible... no idea how that is done, most likely 'behind the scenes'.

at the same time we should run one for all the brown ribbon winners.
I would anticipate it would be a much more interesting.

Three browns would probably be necessary to qualify.

Why not something in the way of reality tv. Start with the ribbon winners, conduct a contest. Take the top 20 or so and start weekly eliminations until you end up with only one person. For participating award the top 10 with lifetime membership to DPC. If the contest is successful, perhaps the next one could have some corporate sponsors.

I don't know . . . maybe because reality TV and its format blows? ;-)
