have a look at these two shots!
I was really pleased with my gambling picture but it scored averagely
then I saw this one which scored well  (a great shot)

Free Study vs. Specific Challenge - MUCH more competition in FS and typically higher voting standards I think. In the same challenge, I would like them both equally.
edit to add: It is never valid, IMO, to compare the scores or placing of two similar images from two diferent challenges or even two different eras (i.e. Table Shot vs. Table Shot II)

I don't think the different challenges had much to do with the score, in this particular case, imho.
What made the difference is that your image is static and Elvis' has a huge motion going on there... |

Yes but great pictures arent just about capturing challenging technical feats! It's he mood and more importantly the narrative that counts.
