Hey Folk,
I will get right to the point.
Just taken ownership of a Canon EOS D60, came with a Canon EF 28-90mm 1:4-5.6 lens.
Apart from a strong desire to take photographs, thats all i have right now, so....is there any specific types of photography i should be concentrating on with my current lens and what should be next on my list of things to buy (budget limited).
Can you also offer any advice and perhaps tips that will help me on the road to improvement.
Oh, and before you go...Does the lens dictate the clarity and sharpness of an image or is it the camera? If its the lens then what is the main difference between dSLRs'.
Thanks in advance for your comments |

Shoot everything and anything all the time. I would look at the 50mm 1.8 it is a fantastic, sharp inexpensive lens. It is a prime lens and is great for low light situations.

Look at the past challenges here. Find an image of a photog that you really like and try and copy what they have done. Get a good photo-editing software package like Photoshop and learn the basics.

Yes it is mostly the lens. There are to many differences to list in comparing dSLR's

That's a good "walk around" lens, meaning a good general purpose lens. You might find it a little lacking on the wide angle end.
If so, I have been very pleased with the Tamron 17-50 2.8

The lens says a lot about the clarity or sharpness of the image. The lens you have was a standard kit lens. Not the best image quality, but good value for the price.
Canon "L" lenses are legendary for sharpness but also carry a hefty price tag. The Tamron LD series is really good on the optics, less so on the build when compared to Canon "L" lenses.
Good luck!

For advanced techniques check out the Learn section here and also do a search on tutorials in the forums, there are a LOT of free PS tutorials out there, you just need to find them.
