Shoot, I finally broke 5 on my score for this challenge. Let's stop the voting now!!! :D

Hopefully since the first 90 or so voters couldn't seem to give any ratings higher than 5 the next batch of voters will be more rational/kind. :-p

um ... yeah, i'm below 7 ... just like everyone else.

looking through this thread, nobody's posted scores above 7 ... dunno if that's cause they're hiding or if it's because there's nobody with scores that high.

voting seems really low all round.

Well as an ex-Senior School English teacher, I am really finding myself challenged in this challenge: I had it all figured out. Personification is to make a "thing" person-like...best examples given to my classes from Wordsworth's "Daffodils" ("...dancing in the breeze")...also characters from Beatrix Potter: animals given human qualities. What about the moon being spoken of as "she" with feminine serenity, calm, guile etc . There is a fine line between metaphor and personification.

I know that just because the "thing" has an apparent face in it, doesn't make it Person-i-fied (my entry is largely a thing with a face in it). But my entry is a thing, with a certain patina and ethic about it, given a GREAT title, which makes it an animated, living, person-type creature...it has life if you look hard enough.

I think we've all gone off at tangents and in this challenge it's been a very subjective process both for photographers and voters...somehow more so than usual? In assessing the entries, maybe we should have all been forewarned to put on our Poet caps to be a bit more forgiving...?

Having said that, there are at 10 submissions that really are fantastic!!

Ooooooh. Baileys. One of my Chanukah presents from my wife. Yummmmm. Cherries are good, too. :)

I'm sure one of them must be mine. ;)

Never seen this kind of drop so fast. Not my worst, though.

Seems odd to me that really great photographers here have such low scores. I don't get it. I looked through the photos and almost none of are worthy of 3's or 4's IMHO.

I am voting on the photo and I'm voting with my conscience. I'm not simply being reactionary or trying to compensate for the presumed agendas of other voters.

Dang I sure hope that's what other people are doing too!

I've got a 3.5 on my score. Lone commenter doesn't like subject, but said nothing bad about technical stuff,so I see that as good. kinda. :-)
02/06/2007 10:40:27 AM · #164
I'm sub 4 also...and my lone comment states that it is a great photo, but my object was created by someone else....so i'm assuming I'm getting DNMC votes.
02/06/2007 10:44:14 AM · #165
but most of our objects in this challenge WERE created by somebody else - so what's their point?!

and to add insult to injury my score just dropped....f***** trolls....

that's an odd comment ... 90% of the entries would have been created by someone else ... wine openers, ear buds, dolls and toys!!

i wouldn't worry about that comment, that's just a silly thing to say!

I hope I'm not jinxing anything now, but my score just climbed a tiny bit...keep it up...*crosses fingers*

No way I'm calling that comment silly, I'm going to assume that's what everyone is thinking!!! Although it bothers me a lil', I'd rather believe that, than my photo being that bad technically.
02/06/2007 10:58:23 AM · #169
hear hear, nobody bitchin' yet about the editing or tech, just the subject.

i agree, it's better to have chosen a bad subject, than to have taken a bad photograph.

but i don't see the point of the comment. unless you shoot food or trees, then of course your entry was created by someone else ... by silly, i mean it is an unreasonable criticism.

:)

Realizing everyone has different voting criteria and methodology, to me if a photo is 1) on theme and B) technically sound (if not outstanding) it gets a 5 by default. Technical shortcomings and/or lack of applicability take the score down.

Biased as I might be, I believe my shot is both on topic and technically sound ... yet it's received it's fair share of 3s and 4s. Maddening.

OK, I will comment on everyone!!...who's in with me???

Ditto for me. My baseline is 5. It goes up/down from there, though I rarely give 4s or less and if I do I say why!
