| I see alot of shots with those poseable wooden figurines..are they a photographers standard? why do so many people use them? (honest question) |

Its an art school thing for me. We used them as drawing models. But in the photography world they can help you to undersand lighting, exposure, DOF, OOF, and a ton other new-shooter lessons - then as your work matures, you discover how emotive they are..... and so they appear on photography sites like this one, shot by those who are watching the light, or the exposure, or the emotion.....

Yep, she did provide a good answer.
I think jmsetzler was also being serious, though. They *are* trendy, meaning that various people discover them and then some go a little overboard with them.
