I'd like to nominate Papagei for a Yappie. Not for any single comment, but for the fact that I see comments from her on almost every one of my entries, and on most of the other entries I look at post-challenge. Sometimes I agree with her observation, and sometimes I don't, but the fact remains, she is giving lots of concise and meaningful comments, and should be recognized for her efforts and the example she is setting. |

I nominate this shot by Pointandshoot for an OOBIE.
I think it is a brilliant composition and a beautiful image. He stopped the action so well that I think most of the voters didn't even see any action at all. Thus the dismal final score. |

I nominate by JuliBoc for an Oobie. The water drops are transformed by the stopped motion into a mystical curtain of shifting spheres. The only reason it didn't score higher is that people were looking for a very limited interpretation of stopped motion as crystal sharp captures of action. As all OOBIEs should, this photo shows us another way. |

What a surprise and a pleasure. I'm so happy this shot received some sort of recognition. Thanks, Don, for the nomination! |

this shot took a completely unfair beating:
skewsme
not only is it a damn fine photo, but it's an accurate illustration of the benefit of "book smarts" |

you mean something can convey "book smarts" without having books in it, or somebody wearing glasses?!?? I second. |

100% agree, but I'm still not surprised it got hammered. Takes a certain amount of thinking to make the connection, and we don't see much of that, IMO, by the voters.

IMO, photos that communicated the challenge theme with a person/people scored MUCH higher. I didn't see any connection with this image at all...
Challenge description: "Book smarts" often refers to individuals or groups who obtained their learning through formal learning processes.

I wouldn't have expected it to come close to ribboning, but it finished next to last. It does represent something an individual has learned from a book, so the connection to the challenge topic is there, albeit that it is not an obvious one. And it IS an excellent image...

I agree, and third the motion. It is drenched with OOBIENESS and deserves the award. |

Lots of nice images out there in the recent rollovers - any of them OOBIE-worthy?

Yappie nomination for SaraR. She leaves lots of comments, spreads them out across challenges and side stuff; she applauds good results, provides constructive criticism, and is just generally a delightful contributor to the DPC community.
For this shot:
She wrote "What an intriguing photograph - the old gentleman, almost looking as though he has fallen through the space/time continuum, hands folded and eyes raised to heaven as though in prayer, the modern transport (a minibus pehaps?) and the case placed carefully and neatly in the foreground."
And for this:
"I am really pleased to have found this again - it left a big impression on me when I viewed it during the challenge, but then I 'lost' it. The composition is dramatically powerful, but it is the sense of aloneness (as opposed to loneliness) that is evoked that provided the lasting impression for me. Into my favourites so that I can find it whenever I want!"

Oh, and thanks Barbara!! I kinda liked that one myself. :-)
And I second Jayson's blueberry nomination - pretty darn cool picture that definitely met the challenge in a most creative way! |

No kidding! Amazingly high finish for an image that is arguably not meeting the challenge. Terrific shot, one of my high scores in the challenge. Second the nomination :-)
