I nominate Silverfoxx for an OOBIE for this beautiful photo. The missing link is "communication", a very OOB interpretation of the Missing Link challenge.

I'd like to nominate surfdabbler for a YAPPIE. I have just received two comments from him on challenge pics and they were really tips on how to do something better. Here is one
There's some wierd editing marks visible at the top left, and the top looks a little odd. When burning, I always try to use a large brush at low opacity, and paint with many small strokes to reduce visible editing lines.
Maybe those with better PP skills aren't getting these kinds of comments but I know that I appreciated it.

This photo is way under rated! What a shame that the voters missed the ball on this one.

Looks like we have only one YAPPIE nomination for this week...anyone got another YAPPIE nod to post, to make the competition a bit more of, well, a *competition*? Don't forget to say a little something about what makes the nominated commenter deserving of the award. :) |

rheverly for this comment:
"A reaction (since you asked in the reaction club): Something about this made me feel sad, almost profoundly so. Some of it was the subject matter, something that obviously once held memories for someone, something important enough to shoot on slide, yet now gone, forever, unrecoverable, lost. The way the damage appears, especially in the film and the left slide, increased the strength of that reaction in me. The use of the plants and the drawing brought me back a bit, making me feel the slides were not so lost; why give preference to the originally captured image? Just because it had the luck of being first in time? Maybe this is how these slides should be used, not holding some out of focus image of a model on a car hood or darkness because the photographer had his finger over the lens, but interacting with life and beauty and making art. There was still something, though, that pushed me back toward sadness, and until I read the comments, I didn't realize that it was the space in the lower left corner. Compositionally this works for me, great lines and flow. But given the subject matter and its arrangement, the lower left space adds to the feeling of sadness for me. There's just something . . . " |

Anyone have a nomination for an OOBIE or a YAPPIE?
We've had none so far for this nomination week, which began on July 29 and will close on August 4...
Anyone? :) |

Two days left to go before this current crop of nominations moves on to the voting process...but there's only ONE! Please, won't someone take pity and post an OOBIE or a YAPPIE nomination for a deserving member of the DPC community?
All nominations posted between July 29-August 4 will go to the vote starting August 5.
Post your candidates for an OOBIE or a YAPPIE here! |

aw shucks. thank you!
I would like to nominate this odd image here for Still Life:
Take a moment to look at this as an image, as pure image. It is a beautiful arrangement of colors and shapes, light and dark. It is a painting, an abstract painting. Whistler would call it "Arrangement in Grey and Orange" |

I would like to nominate Ursula please. I suggested our site councilor last time, and would like to do so again if possible, as I really do believe she deserves a "YAPPIE" award, for her sometimes short comment, but ever so to the point,
This is one of her comments I read recently, and it was right on, and exaclty what the images says to the viewer.
Ursula comment
re this image by MaryO
I usually don't like collages, and don't do them, but for some reason the flower collages are turning out quite nice. They remind me of posters. In this one, I like how you put the two triptychs on top, and the two purple morning glories at bottom sides. Very beautiful!
Since this comment Ursula also has asked for some guidence to how collages were done, and has since done one herself, and it is very good, and definately poster material.

She does a lot for this site, and we would be lost without her, and her amazing talant.

I nominate JPR's faceless extreme emotion shot for the OOBie:
It's a subtle shot with very little of the image area devoted to the subject. But her stance says it all, plus the walker, plus the distance she has to go down the street. All in all, a complete story in one image.

I want to second the nomination for ursula. Just what she says in the forums alone is worth our appreciation. |

Bear_Music has not received a YAPPIE. I believe it's time for this recognition.

Since Ursula has won the YAPPIE award before perhaps it is time to consider her for a CAT. |
