I spent hours getting this photo edited. Does it look like I went to far? I am trying to keep it realistic, but I had to do lots of work to remove a ton of blemishes. Any advice?

The snow worked out perfect! I will say that.

I don't think "overedited" when I see it, so I guess not...

Definitely not...I think it looks great!

That is what I was wondering. After staring at it for a few hours I can't tell if I made it better or worse! lol

nope ... looks good ... I would be interested in seeing the original though

It looks just like this except lots of blemishes...lol

I always sort of feel sort of weird about doing this type of editing. It feels like I am being vane or something...

kinda what I was expecting... hats off ... that is an excellent retouch job...

It is kind of funny, because this girl has an amazing voice. She asked me to get some promo shots, and I knew I was in for some PS time. It feels like I am doing that DOVE commercial or something...lol

Well, now we will just see what she thinks. Hopefully she likes it.

I think this is a very clever (and well executed) use of post processing.

The poor girls skin in it's natural state tended to take over from overall appearance and attractiveness. The edited version made me be drawn to her eyes first, rather than the before version that made me look at her skin blemishes!

I understand what you're saying about the Dove commercial thing, I suppose you could have left a few blemishes in if you wanted it to be more 'true' - wonder what the client will think?

Well done - hope she likes it.

I know what you mean, my model for my free study shot wanted me to take her freckles off. Well, I took the more noticeable single ones and some moles off but left the rest on as I think they look cute. She was happy.

ETA By the way, outstanding job on this one, you were very thorough to make it look natural, when I saw the before shot close up I wondered where you'd got enough clean skin to heal with!

Excellent work Boomtap!

I had to heal, re-heal, paint a little, run it through neat image 3 times and try and keep the detail of the snow and jacket. A good challenge for an evening. I really like the image. If it wasn't for the blemishes, this is how pretty she is. I hate acne because it can ruin a persons life.

You did do an excellent job.

Does she know you were going to do clean that up for her?

I always try and discretely ask if a model wants something like that done first. People can get all weirded out about that kind of thing sometimes.

Ya, I thought about running that by her. We will just have to see. I did what I thought is best. She is trying to sell albums with this. Her voice is so wonderful, but as much as I hate to say it, the world is vain. If she doesn't like it at least it might get me some summer work doing graduation photos lol!

Believe it or not, this one was exactly the same way. But the guys I have done this for seem to love it. It helps them with the ladies.

Don't get me wrong, in most cases it is a good thing and your model will appreciate it. Just a friendly word of caution ;)

I think you've done a great job. And I say that as someone who really dislikes too much neat image etc.
01/28/2007 03:28:49 AM · #19
that is absolutly amazing and awesome how'd you do it...i'm new at the whole ps thing?
01/28/2007 03:30:32 AM · #20

Ya. Good word. It is hard, because we have all these tools, and we can make people look better than they do. I could see some not digging it. The question is where do you draw the line. Everybody wants some touch up, but not too much. I am hoping that this looks natural enough that she doesn't think I was trying to make her look plastic.

Thanks for the kind words on the edit.

I opened it up in CS2 and just got to work. I sampled and resampled parts of the face and used the healing brush and clone brush to remove the bulk. Then sampled some of the skin tones, and filled in some red areas with a brush. Then I used the healing brush to blend the paint back in. Then I hit it with a touch of neat image which at first really jacked it up. After neat image I used the healing brush again and again, and then I neat imaged to sort of blend that. I just kept repeating until I liked each part of the face. At one point I just felt it was right.

Ok, now I sent this to her and she likes it but doesn't like her (double chin). I don't think she even thinks I edited out the blemishes. (It is sort of humorous how people view themselves) Anyway I know that I can do that but I cannot remmeber the tool that I use to "transform" the face. I know I select the area, but how do I move it.

I am doing a full on Dove comercial here. Except more of a challenge. I think I might make my own video after this is done.

Okay. Sounds like it's a free-for-all. Crack open the Liquify tool!

liquify eh. I have never used it. I will give it a try.

I have never found anyone that freaked after doing an editing in PS, I have this model wich actually after some PS work asked me for more! :P you have to watch the before and afters! she is really good looking actually, but erasing dome face lines can change someones aspect dramatically!...
