I think I have found a new way to get rich...

Professional Obituary Photographer

I don't believe anyone else is doing it... at least I have never seen it advertised :)

Used to be quite popular. Now the photos are very collectible.

Sounds interesting, but I don't think you'd get enough costumers on a local scale. Maybe you can find some way to offer this online for other regions as well?

Advert on the right side of the page... ;-)

This was prompted by a thread in June 2005.

that is why the government usually advise us to use a recent smugshot of ourselves when we renew our driving's license each year!

To expand on your idea a little bit you may want to check THIS out.
I will say that it's a very hard thing to get people thinking of either their own death, or that of a loved one, and probably even harder to get them to talk in front of a microphone for all of posterity to hear.

That said, I think it's a great idea and you could create montages of the deceased and their family members to be displayed at funerals and wakes. Marketing wise, I would get some fliers printed up with a description of your services and try to get them distributed to cemetaries, lawyers (who deal with wills), and hospices.

I'm not REALLY thinking about being an obituary photographer... This was a tongue-in-cheek post at best :)

but that self-"orbituary"-shot you got in the article was cute.
I mean, hell yeah, that would be refreshing (designer orbituary photos, how'd that sound?) :)

There are many things I'm sure will be said at my funeral, but the one thing I want people to say is....
