How about this...
Since we all live in different time zones, the day off and day on might not work well because people might get confused...here's what I think we should do:
7 days minimal editing (just like xxrozxx said, no editing except to resize. Also, label your photo so people know it's minimal editing) During these days people comment mainly on how the PHOTO could be improved without using any editing. That way we improve our photo skills during the first half.
then...
7 days post processing We go back and improve our past entries by post processing. The comments given during this section are to help mainly with post processing...what people can do, how to do it, etc.
Then...whoever wants to...
Can do it again.
what do you all think? |

I think that's an excellent plan! That way folks can do either 7, 14, or 28 days, depending on their schedules and desires. I'm in! |

I'm interested, but I might have to upload my shots in batches since I'll be away from technology this weekend. On the other hand, if weather permits, I should be surrounded by all kinds of natural wonder.

If we are converting from Raw, I am assuming no editing can be done before the conversion? I am wondering if there is any point in shooting in Raw. |

Minimal editing says no shooting in RAW jpeg only :) |

Don't think I am going to do this although I said I would. Just not in the photo mood lately, for the past few days it's even been a chore to do my photo-a-day blog. So count me out.

So how about the "rotate", "sharpening" and "desaturation" clauses? Do they apply here? And, are we following the size restrictions exactly (150kb, 160 and 640)? Just want to be clear.

I would think so - it's good to get into practice for minimal challenges to follow the same rules.

Actually with the D70s, you can shoot Raw+jpeg. You could use the jpeg files for the first minimal editing 7 days and the raw files for the edited versions.
You can't rotate or desaturate under minimal editing.
If you are using photographs from your dpc portfolio, the limit is 800 on one side. |

Actually, Minimal Editing rules read:
You may:
*
use any feature of your camera while photographing your entry, with the exception of combining multiple captures in-camera.
*
rotate your entry by 90, 180 or 270 degrees.
*
resize your entry once.
*
sharpen your entry using your editing software’s “sharpen” or equivalent option. The use of customizable sharpening tools, such as Unsharp Mask, is not allowed.
*
fully desaturate your image using your editing software’s “desaturate,” “convert to grayscale” or equivalent function. Customizable tools are not allowed.
*
request removal of your own entry during the voting period IF none of your last 25 entries were disqualified or removed, and no rules were violated.
*
include existing images or artwork as part of your composition as long as the entry does not appear to consist entirely of a pre-existing photograph in order to circumvent date or editing rules or fool the voters into thinking you actually captured the original photograph.
Thanks for the point about Jpeg + Raw. Hadn't thought about using the Raw for later editing.
