Right...now apart from this clause...
"A winner will be selected from all eligible entries in a random drawing to be held on or about March 1, 2007."
...and this clause...
"All entries become the physical property of Popular Photography & Imaging and will not be returned."
...and this clause...
"Submission of an entry and/or acceptance of a prize grants Sponsor, and third parties authorized by Sponsor, the exclusive, perpetual right to publish, use, edit, adapt, modify, excerpt and/or copy the entry for any and all purposes in any and all media currently in existence or hereafter developed without further compensation to you, which includes, but is not limited to the right to, the right to publish the entry in Popular Photography & Imaging magazine and on popphoto.com and to use your entry as we see fit in exhibitions and promotions of Popular Photography & Imaging magazine."
...how does one know what time this is meant to start in their part of the world?????

Talk about a stupid contest... You get 8 hours to sleep, one hour for personal business = 225 total images.
Yet in the rules, submit your best 5 shots and they don't even need to be photographed on that day.
Humm...ok. |

Emphasis added ...
"Exclusive" means you can't use your own picture any more -- to me that's a rip-off. |

Rip-off BIG TIME! Businesses and Magazines have clued-in to a new type of scam...organize photo contests and get a huge collection of free stock photos at no cost...in fact make money from the sponsors...Great business...

You're shooting for a contest right? Who cares if one day's worth of photos you lose exclusive rights to? Are all of your photos that important? I know I'm not that good because most of mine are junk anyway.
edited for clarity.

Anything good enough to win could be worth quite a bit, yes. SOME people do sell their work for hundreds per print, after all :) |

Since the winner is drawn randomly you dont even have to send in good photos, in which case it doesnt really matter if you lose exclusive rights. |

You have a point, BUT...
If I shoot all day, I usually am expecting some sort of payment for it, especially if it's for a "client". But, here it seems that simply submitting to the contest gives them exclusive right to the pics.
Net result: You shoot for us = we MIGHT pay you (with a camera).

You dont have to shoot all day and you dont even have to shoot that day. You send them five crappy pics that they have exclusive rights too and then you may get picked randomly and win a camera. |

LOL, in that case, perhaps I could submit a bunch of DPC outtakes :-) |

But you don't HAVE to shoot all day, or even enter shots taken that day, apparently. Just enter 5 random shots and you're in, as I read it :) |

Exclusive rights for any image no matter how good or bad are worth WAY more than a pentax dslr 2 lenses and a card. Just another way to scam a bunch of images and dilute the market for those of us actually making a living (or trying to) doing this.

Just make sure they are not ones you've already posted in an out-takes thread!
If it's really just a random drawing, maybe I'll use the timer on my camera and send them a photo of the inside of a closed box (no OOB thinking here!) and see how they manage to market that.
Mostly I don't want to give any exclusive rights because I'm likely to forget and post the picture or something ... |

If I did just send crap, I'd have problems with the crap having my name attached to it, which is part of the ToS.
Wait a second, I do that here... nevermind.

Well, apparently the recycle bin is real stingy because I deleted a bunch of crappy photos earlier today and got squat. I would have loved to have received a new Pentas DSLR for them or the chance to win one but maybe that's just me?
