Can anyone lead me to a decent, free online photo sharing web site? Just a place to upload lowres versions of family gettogethers, parties, events, so that each person can view at their leasure.
I now use the free yahoo service and it sucks.

Try MyFamily.com
It's only open to members you invite (no casual browsing of your family photos) and has all kinds of automatic email notifications. Extremely suitable for families or other affinity groups; not suitable for general public posting/linking of images (I use pBase.com for that).

Any other suggestions? Actually I don't necessarily want it to be exclusive. That way I don't have to enter the email address of everybody that might want to view the pics.

you can try print@wolf Print at Wolf
its free, but pics only stay up for 30 days.
you could create a "generic" login and then send the link with the user name and password for all to see. there is a limit of 100 photos i think

I use webshots, for free it's not bad, you can update them anytime you want, they have a bulk picture program so you can load more than one at a time and for a very small fee you can increase your space. They send reports showing how many times your albums have been viewed (first three only on the free account) and they have been very reliable for the past year I've been using them.

pBase is "almost free" and is easy to use and open to the public.
Most printing sites (Ofoto, Shutterfly, Snapfish) will store your photos more or less permanently, but you'll need to "invite" people once. You'll probably write everyone's email once anyway when you notify them -- may as well pet them in a permamnent address book for the site you use. |
