Hi, are these 3 cameras in the same league?

pop photo gave the d80 the best review and best image quality.
It costs a little more though, so for the prices they cost, yeah they're all in the same league. Just get what feels best in your hand.

It seems to me that feature wise the 400D is trailling a bit but still, it's less expensive.

If you want to know wich one is in YOUR league you'll have to go in a store and take them in your hand, make some shot with both of them, evaluate the feel , the sound and even more important, evaluate the whole system (lenses, flash, remotes, etc) to start with the one that suit you best for the years to come.

Thisshould be of some help.

The 400D is the only one that has the Sensor dust shaking system...And having played with one once, it feels better than the Original 300D rebel, more responsive, faster...

I really like my 400D. Crayon, did you lose your camera?

no, luckily i didn't (thanks) but i'm having needs to take photos using high ISO more and more often, so i'm looking at dSLR's at the moment. and i haven't even start cracking about lens...

Actually the Nikon is the only one that doesn't have a sensor dust removal system.

crayon you already know a ton about this. You tell me what you are thinking. What camera are you leaning towards? What lens system do you think will have what you are looking for?

actually i'm leaning slightly towards the 400D due to it being the cheapest. and as an added fact, i was originally considering acquiring either a used 350D or a D70s, but a fellow friend remarked that 6mp just don't cut it anymore nowadays (he was more specifically referring to my mention of D70s, and he is a portrait/wedding/event photographer, using a D200) what do you think about sensors smaller than 10mp on a dSLR?

8mp is good for 16x20 prints in my opinion, and 6 isn't much smaller than that, so the occasional 16x20 if you don't need a lot of fine detail should look good. For web use or small prints, definitely.
However, they are the older generations of SLR's, and improvements have been made on things other than resolution.

for your mention about improvements other than resolution, does that mean that the D50 may well be better than a D70/D70s? i think they are about 1+ year apart in terms of release dates? and thanks for the info on large prints. dont think i'd ever need to print 16x20 often, but just in case. i've shot 2 asian weddings (one was only for the banquet) so far using only my Fuji S9500 and the noise (or lack of details) at high ISO settings is making it harder to post-process for the final output. also, another short-coming is the slow write time if i shoot RAW. so what is my best cure? should i really give in to the fact that i dont have much money and settle for the cheapest, 400D (or 350D) ?

I print 13X19 all the time from my D70s and have great results 6mp I think would be enough to start. You haven't talked about lenses. What are you thinking about there?

For lenses, I'm thinking to start with only 1 lens. I don't wanna make the mistake of buying too many lenses and had to buy/sell in the future (i'm not rich enough to keep the rarely-used ones). thinking of just getting a fast prime lens, probably 50mm. and later as a next, it would be either a zoom telephoto, stabilized or an ultra-wide - whichever i would need/afford first. any tips on how to start?

UPDATE: I just read from another thread that the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is a very sharp lens. so maybe this rather than the fast-prime lens as the first.

I know that here in Asia, second hand lenses are hard to find, but seriously, K10D man, K10D.

Same noise performance as the Nikon, plus anti-shake. Check out their funky lens line-up.

50mm f/1.4 is considerably cheaper than the Canon/Nikon variants too. Although it doesn't have USM or similar, it's still fast and sharp as hell. VERY nice.

There are some other really nifty lenses in the line-up including some 'pancake' lenses...

I like the D80, don't get me wrong, but I'd go K10D if it were me. the latest version of anti-shake plus a cheap f/1.4 lens... hrmmmmm OH and they will get to use the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye zoom, the Pentax 16-50 f/2.8 (which appears to be slated for release before the tardy Tokina folk) which will be the equivalent of a 24-70 f/2.8 IS in Canon terms...

That right there is a pretty flipping amazing lens kit and of course you could always grab that 70-300 cheapie or whatever until you made your decision which way to go for telephoto.

9 autofocus zones with crosshair precision is pretty nifty too.
