I didn't do very well in the All Alone challenge, but I wasn't expecting to really. I changed my submission at the last minute for not-so-clichÃ© photo which said 'alone' in a different way to just not being around other people. Here is what I entered:

I liked your entry because it clearly expressed the isolation of the sitting figure. I like your second shot as well, the expression of loneliness is less strong to me, but I find the image more appealing. Your third is awfull in my opinion, the lady has a grey/green color and gets a bit lost in the total, so the message gets lost as well.

Thanks, I sort of felt the same about the 3rd image too but I wasn't sure. The words 'feeling grey' sort of means down and lonely to me, so I was just playing around with that idea.

Maybe your entry wasn't as "clean" but it had more feeling.

I liked your entry. The focus was very well done.
As far as the other two, I never mind desaturation when it is well done and has a purpose. The middle one is a good example of the technique. I like it. The third one takes the focus away from the subject, so I don't like it as much.

Of the three, I like the one you posted best. Like the others have said, it expresses "alone" better than the the other shots. I think it works so well because the shot includes other people who are not paying attention to the man.

The shot of the girl is nice, but in the second one the green is a bit much for me. I like the color focused on the girl better.

Thanks for the comments everyone, maybe I did make the right choice afterall? Im removing the photos now to make space in my portfilo :)

When can we address that space issue? I'm sure many of us would pay for extra storage here. It is easy to link to pBase or something, but one loses the advantage(?) of enabling commentary on the photo instead of just in a thread. And as we delete a lot of photos we will have some ugly-looking (and less useful) threads.

I think I've restored the thread pattern on the front page now ...
