As an experiment just now, I tried cloning a fairly even surface both with the airbrush icon turned on and with it off. I can't see any difference. What exactly is the airbrush for and in what cases would you use it or avoid it? |

I've always wondered the same thing!

I was told once to use it when Dodging, Burning, and painting masks. I guess it helps smooth out the edges in applications like that...maybe?
Not really sure, either.

Bumping in case anyone knows the answer to my question. |

I found out!
With the airbrush, paint continues to build up as long as the mouse button is held down, even when the pointer is not moving. |

The airbrush tool works more like an actual airbrush or can of spraypaint. It increases density as you hold your mouse button, even if you're not moving the mouse.
Or what Ben said while I was dinking around.

Well, redundant information or not, it's nonsense chains like this that bury the useful information so deep that people have a hard time finding the real content of the asked-and-answered post.
C'MON people! Does this have to happen every time?

Paging Terry, though the answer isn't buried. It's right at the top of the post, beside the question.

With all due respect, Robert, as the "owner" of this thread, I think the banter is perfect, especially now that I've got my answer.

Isn't it me who gets to decide that? ;) I still don't have my video or recipe or anything like that... |

Not if you have "reversed" in your preferences, which is the only sensible way to browse emerging threads IMO :-)

I used to have that on, until I realised that 90% of most threads are nonsense after the question gets answered. Some of the nonsense is just more obvious.

Yeah, IMO there are two types of threads:
Either they are simple short-answer threads like this one or they are debates, like the multiple "Your scoring methods suck" threads.
