I know I really have to go by my own creativity here but this is totally different for me. I'll be doing a session with a dj on Saturday. He wants pictures outside- with the bay in the bg, with his turntable and pictures of his eqpt inside the studio.
Any ideas on what to do with the turntable outside? I'm getting these cheesey pictures in my head haha. |

Not sure I understand... you first mention his equipment will be inside the studio. Then you ask the question what to do with his equipment outside?
Regardless... here's what I'm thinking: try some shots with a very wide angle lens and get in really close to the turn table. For your other shots, try lots of different angles, up high, down low, cropping tight on some, showing more background on others, etc. Basically, just move around a lot and have fun! :-)

The main image that comes to mind is a musical version of arnit's "Surreal Ironing".
May not be the direction he is wanting to go. :)

Oh and I have two lenses- a 14-45 and a 45-150. I rarely use the 14. But is that what you're saying to do, is use something I can get more in on and just get really close?
He's doing this for me too. He had posted in craigslist and I thought it sounded interesting- not to mention having some customers south of our county would be very nice. He wanted to help someone out with their portfolio and get some help with his business too. Course I'm not doing it for free, but I'm not charging as much as I normally would either.
Another question, is selling the cd of pictures for 80, is that too low? I haven't given him a price yet but I know they don't have a LOT of money. I normally charge 200 for an unproofed disk- meaning no name on them. Proofs are free. |
