Tate told me my personal deadline date is 24 hours earlier then the posted ones. Don't worry about it baco99, I didn't submit any this week since I have so much to do including the Players Cards.
Thanks for the link, I was just going to clone them by screen capturing several and add/delete parts. Yes I was intending to make each a different major color shade/hue, but tye-dye is interesting, too.
Closeups, are better when shown in the reduced, forum signiture size. I prefer the Axe-shaver for Asim, maybe he can put a fake cat on the cat-scanner for an appropriate future challenge.
As scalvert's essay link I posted here earlier stated fake, stuffed animals are not good enough. I did see a fake, in studio, sunset get a ribbon. It was created with a light through a pin hole, in orange paper. Focus on an idea, or just a place to go and hunt for a shot. I've got an Ice Hockey t-shirt that says, "Shoot first, ask questions later". |

Usually my scores reflect the time and effort spent even if the idea was great. I know we all will have high and low scores, but we will learn and be much greater a year from now.
What do you think of my last two?
I fixed up my remote photo after submitting in the last 5-minutes.
4.7970 pts., 71/89, 20%
colorcarnival wins the prize, one matchbook.
Many comments were just number of matches or matchbooks not even about the photo.
5.2938 pts., 112/245, 55%
I thank my wife for these it was her hand and her matches. |

Whoo hoo - a matchbook! Sorry, could not resist posting a guess like others did lol. I thought it was interesting - what was your background?
I bet if I had just taken a photo of a matchbook, my score would have been higher. Who knew that DPC voters wanted something that simple? I had a good idea at the last minute and the results were terrible. Wish I had more time to go get some colorful socks! Maybe I would have come in 6th from the bottom instead of 5th from the bottom lol. I was not happy with it going in and the results were to be expected. With it being that low tho, I was disappointed to not win the brown ribbon...
However, I really liked what I submitted for ENTRANCE and the viewers do not. Therefore, I pledge to you, my fellow Motley Crew, that starting next week, I will submit one photo that is a PURE LITERAL INTERPRETATION of the challenge. And then I will go off an submit in another challenge my own artistic vision. I am off on a mission to prove that voters really like PURE LITERAL INTERPRETATIONS. Hence forth, I shoot without thinking. :D

wow, that was really interesting reading about the cat tail shot.
I love stuff like that.
Since I missed the enter/exit challenge I did decide to enter a minimalism shot. It should be interesting to see how well it does.
I sent the horrible self portrait. Hopefully, it will look ok. LOL

I was saying in another post how Im going to have to start thinking for the voters now and not so much for my own interpretation. I don't want to 'conform' to much though so we'll see.
I'm really surprised that my wildlife shot is actually CLOSE to a 5.0!
My last few challenges were in the crapper. I predict Nude will too! hahaha (on purpose though) Don't worry, Im getting it out of my system before the real challenge begins. ;) |

I'm greatly surprised theat the more creative dancing matches came in 7th place. I'll have to read the pre-Results comments. I also thought of using a large butane replica of a match, but I didn't have time to buy one. Wooden matches are less expensive.
Some people spend a lot for props, I've spent a lot at craft-stores, party center stores, Big lots/Dollar stores, and ZGallery. Halloween stores have great makeup, masks, and fake blood. I do have many that I haven't used, yet. I bet some photographers never use them. Many great backgrounds have been created in PhotoShop and projected on an LCD Moniter/TV.
Here's a guy that bought a tricycle and a model rocket.

whew - submitted my photo for minimalsm. all done for the week. I've got one in wildlife, and Entrance too. Going overboard with my new membership!
Going to be testing my theory of literal interpretation in the minimalsm challenge. So this means no abstractness or attempts at art lol. as long as it does better than my sock pic, I'm a happy camper.
good luck to everyone this week!

Next week will be a little less hectic.

I did a quick entry for the "Minimal III" just for the heck of it.
I always learn something new. I used some reflected light from a large piece of white foamboard. Somehow those comercial reflectors seem to make sense, less direct light is better for some subjects.

Please send me some ideas for our Team Logo.
I downloaded all the "Motley Cru" rock videos from msn.com in searching for ideas the other day. |

Oh boy, I'm finally weighing in this week. I've got 3 entries on the go and all are doing BAD! I tried some "artsy" stuff and I can tell you that it's not fairing well in here! Lesson Learned: Don't Go Arsty! The peeps in here don't seem to like it much! Oh, and Don't Have A Sense Of Humor Either! It gets you having to "validate" your entry!
That's how I spent my week.....waiting for validation and it was validated because I didn't break any rules! Still.....it made me feel like I was back in highschool, getting questioned on cheating on a test that I didn't cheat on! GRRRRRR.
Ah well, ya live and ya learn!
How are the playing cards coming along John? They must be a real headache!

I know its disheartening to have to validate. But it is a procedure that is put into place to keep it honest. Look at it this way, you did such a good job that you fooled them. They had to see for themselves if it was within the rules or not. Could be taken as a compliment.
My advice, if you like artsy, be artsy. If you like something else, then be that way. Be true to yourself first and foremost. |

it is the "personification" challenge, and the two that will be announced at midnight on tuesday night. any other challenges that happen during the week (speed challenges, free-studies, and other misc ones) do not count. so it is just the sunday night and the two tuesday night ones... since you can only enter one of the tuesday night ones, we each have up to two chances per week (sun night, and one of the two tuesday night ones) |
