Damn. Didn't realise.

I am surprised my work doesn't do better at times. DOn't have an awful lot of time to do creative work lately, as I work, mostly (freelance photographer).

i overall agree with GD4s. pictures here that are on the edge or violent in some way generally don't do very well. if you don't have animals, sunsets, and oceans in your shot you probably aren't going to win. goodtempo's lighting shot ocean sunset has everything that DPC loves. i am not knocking his picture (it's very good), but this is the type of shot that does very well.

another picture that was very good this last week in alone but got hammered because of the subject matter was escape .

check back after the shadows voting is over. you'll see another shot that i guarentee got a lot of ones for violence.

I don't really think you should complain too much about all the ones. The fact that you got a reaction from people is good. Personally I'd love to have a photo get lots of ones and tens at the same time - it's the fives I don't like; they indicate that people think my picture is mediocre.

My first voting on the Grace challenge, I only gave out 1 "3", 2 "2s" and 1 "1". 1 means BAD, something that I would classify as not "distasteful", but just a poorly thought out and exposed photograph whether its within the challenge scope or not.

I hope if I submit to a challenge that people will actually look at what went into the photo and grade it on its photo appeal, originality and challenge scope. In a perfect world I guess?

G4D!

I left you a comment on your image after I ran across it looking through your work. I'm throughly disgusted by the voting and commenting on this image, which right pisses me off. I won't get in depth, cause I did that on the image. I definetly agree with what you've said in this thread though, good for you, mate!

I would just like to say that all of this has been very educational for me. I would like to thank everyone for the support and none support. For the most part the majority is right. The fact that my image had impact is enough, wheather good or bad. I must addmit that when I subbmit an image, in the back of my mind I would like to win, but ultimately I am just trying to put images I have taken, out there for people to see. Love them or hate them, I don't care as long as there is a reaction or impact that makes them stop, think, have a reaction, then move on. After all I think the average time spent looking at an image is only like 2 or three seconds, if that.(I don't necessarily mean this web site, just images in general, like in magazines, newspapers, etc.) So if one of my images makes some one look longer than that, I feel that I have succeeded whether they are building up hate and disgust, or just admiring all aspects of the image.
Thanks again.

Fuck 'em if they can't take it. I would concentrate on the 9's and 10's that are more likely from classically trained photographers rather than the 1's from close minded little housewives that take snapshots of their kids and cats and call that art. Hell I got 22 1's, but I got 21 10's also and that means more.
