Bob, thanks for noticing! It is today, actually, and I celebrated by going on a wildlife shoot (here is SC that entails herons, alligators, pelicans and turtles). I'll leave the rednecks out of it :-) I'm just about to view my files so we'll see if I have anything good for the challenge. |
Oh, GREAT!!!
There goes THAT challenge! 8>)
Go get 'em, girl!

Congratulations - that's half-way to your three score years and ten.
Enjoy.

Happy Birthday, Catherine! You're still just a spring chicken, you know....
So I've been in a rut. I can't even come up with passable crap. So I took three of today's crappier shots - some pigeons, a train shot through the open passenger window while driving (and not looking at the camera, mind you) and another shot of skinny trees, also taken out the passenger window without looking at the camera - layered them all, blended stuff, then diffused glowed it. If you're gonna shoot crap, might as well just put it all out there at once.
Yes, I know this isn't good. It's in good fun. (It's out of my frustration of not having anything to enter in any challenge this week.)

Hey Deb, can I borrow that shot? It's better than anything I have.
edit: And by the way Deb, compared to me, you're a spring chicken too.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't have anything for Match or Motion Panning. I have a couple of really sh**ty motion panning shots but they are probabley in the 4.0 range.
As for Wildlife, we just got a bunch of snow and we're supposed to get a big freeze tonight and the zoo is closed for the winter.
I hope the two new challenges coming up are a little better. |

I've got nothing for any of the current challenges.
Not that taking photos is so super easy with a new baby, 2-yr old, and (special needs) 4-yr old anyhow *lol*
We should be covered in snow right now, but only have a dusting, it's about 5 degrees below 0 (that's 23F), and live in the city - so not much wildlife around.
I simply have no ideas for match or motion.

Nonononono. Based on your last couple of entries, you have to shoot a pic of one of the following for Wildlife:
a) a dead bug
b) A Volkswagen Beetle
c) A Volkswagen Golf (title: Sorta like a Rabbit)
d) A heavy weight around your neck (title: Albatross)
*grin*
And happy birthday! :)

Try setting the brush to very low "hardness" - that's the slider below the brush size slider. That'll clone edge pixels with some transparency so the originals show through, too.
Originally posted by bmartuch: Always make the changes to layers so you don't affect the actual picture. What difference does it make? |
The difference is you can turn off the change if you don't like it, create several variants and look at all of them or combinations of them, and blend edits together in ways not possible if you're always editing the actual image.
Layers also lets you try different ways of achieving the same effect and then decide which one you like best. For example, contrast can be enhanced using curves, levels, brightness/contrast, n overlay layer, or with dodging and burning, or other options (don't worry if you don't recognize all of those at this point). For my latest entry, I tried it using a few of those to see which I liked best. For the actual entry, I just turned off the layers I didn't want.
Layers also let you try various levels of transparency. For example, you can sharpen a copy a lot, then turn down the opacity to blend it back in.
With layer masks, you can easily add to or remove pixels from the mask, which is totally reversible, as opposed to actually erasing pixels from the original image. I can't explain it more than that in the thread, but take my word for it.

What does it mean to suck ?
It means feeling sadness at sending my old 0.3mp Vivitar off to live with another.
It means feeling proud of my OOF photos, and exstatic when I get a photo that̢۪s actually sharp.
It means that if I ever score above 5.0 someone had best call the paramedics as I̢۪m going to have heart failure.
And yes, it means I counted the words ! |
Ah, excellent suck work. Put her in!

What sort of essays? |
There was a eariler post saying write a essay or poem! I can't do that either. Take good pictures or write. |
How's your knitting?

And, not that anyone is wondering, but THIS is the Vivitar in question - I gave it away last Christmas.

In motion panning, I have the brown locked down or at least within the bottom 10%. But it was fun. |

A very understandable oversight! (we don't advertise that sort of thing)

Thanks to Melethia for her comment on my Best of 2006. She is the first to recognize what I found special about the shot. I was becoming convinced (by the other comments) that I have terrible judgment. Then I got her comment. Thanks, Deb, for restoring my sanity. |

This is weird.....I have 51 comments on my B&W entry and not one is from anyone on Team Suck.
However, on my Best of 2006, I have six comments, one of which is a very nice comment from Melethia

Man, Jeb, I wish I could borrow some of whatever you're putting into your shots. The most comments I've ever gotten was 21 during a challenge, and that was my highest-scoring shot.

51 comments? That may be a team record, especially while it's still during voting!
Don, my motion panning isn't beautiful, but it's kinda cool. Still debating it.
And I'm not quite a quarter of the way through Free Study voting - interesting that I've already hit a couple of you! |
