White squirrel in a tree. It is not albino because it has brown eyes. It was seen in October with another white squirrel (mate?). They are the only two white squirrels I know of in that area. They stayed around until after Christmas, then were never seen again.

Wow, what a beauty this is! On a recent trip to NC I learned about the white squirrels thought to be only located in/surrounding the town of Brevard (Brevard County). Beautiful creatures - I was a tad disappointed in not spotting one. You are very lucky to have seen one as well as wonderfully capture this beauty on 'film'. Side note I have to ask: does this mean one can see them down here in S. Florida?!?!?!

Had to add that I have seen white squirrells too. Posting my pic of one. Aren't they the cutest things?

Interesting. I wonder if when the genetic environment for albino characteristics becomes dominant whether a recessive gene for brown eyes might still be viable. One could ponder. Sometimes one could wish for a dark background...

How interesting - I've never seen a non-albino white squirrel. I wonder if it is a new species, or a new evolving species? (Although that would make a lot more sense in the arctic than Florida!) This is a great capture. You should send it in to some wildlife magazines. I'll bet people would be interested to see this.
