I picked up a couple of these this past week and so far am pretty impressed with them:
4Gb Compact Flash Card
They are only $72.99 and are rated at 150x (Read access up to 22 MB/sec, Write access up to 15 MB/sec).

I hope it's okay to add this to your thread.
There is a rebate through 12/31 on Lexar 133x CF cards. The Lexar 2Gb CF card is $84.95 at B&H (add it to your cart for the lower price) before a $55 mail in rebate. The 4Gb card is $169.95 before a $110 mail-in rebate but they are out of stock.

Yeah, I found out about the Lexar card a couple of days ago. Too late, I had already ordered the RiData cards. They aren't a name brand that I recognize, but certainly seem fast enough. And the price was right (without having to wait for a rebate) so I'm still happy.

| Yes, rebates can be messy (and take forever). $72.99 is a great price for a 4Gb card! |

One additional thought: Shooting raw with these 5Ds makes a 4G card a very nice size. My 1G cards only hold about 57 images. I start sweating as soon as the counter drops below 100. So a 4G gives me some breathing room.

Thanks alot for pointing this out, I just ordered one of the CF and found a nice fast SD card. I gave away one of my backup 2GB cards for the holiday wish thread. So I'll use a 4gb now and move my 2gb ultra III as a backup. And since I dont have a backup SD card why not for 33 bucks.

I have used the Transcend 2GB cards from Newegg for awhile now without problem. The 4GB Trancends are the same price as the RiData at Newegg.

Just another option. |

Yeah, I have a couple of Transcend cards as well and can highly recommend them.
The only reason I ventured off into an unknown brand was because the specs for this card were even better (150x versus 120x) at the same price, so I thought I'd give it a try. I have another wedding to shoot next week so I plan to use these quite a bit between now and then just to make sure I can trust them.

dwterry:
does the burst mode work well in raw?
i (like an idiot) purchased a 4gb Sandisk Extreme III Compact Flash Card from a supplier in hong kong that was on ebay, who had perfect feedback and thought it was worth the risk. well, i shoot in raw mode and shoot consecutive shots, and get the dreaded "busy" light, and then after taking 10 shots let's say, only 4 write to the card. not reliable at all. it's fine as long as i'm in JPEG, but if i'm not, i'm screwed. the card does not have sandisk on it, and the sticker on it is bubbled up, so i got rooked.
and of course they do not speak good english at all, so requesting a refund is out of the question.
i was just wondering the performance of it, cause if it's good, i'll buy a couple.
thanks a ton.

I'm using the 5D and so my raw files are in the range of 13M to 15M in size. I tried my the new cards last night and was able to shoot 15 of them (at 3fps) before the camera slowed down. Now, understand, the 5D has a pretty big buffer, so part of that sequence is all in-camera. But I felt it was doing a pretty good job of keeping up.
On my 20D, shooting large jpegs of a highly compressible scene (not too much detail), I managed to get 55 shots in a row before it slowed down. I'm sure the highly compresssible nature of the scene contributed to how many I got, but I was blown away by that number ... that's 11 seconds of 5 fps shooting.

I picked up two. I used both of them at a couple of family portrait sessions ahead of last week's wedding. That gave me the confidence to keep going. I used them during the wedding and am very happy with how they worked. They are my fastest cards to date, and not a single hiccup thus far.

I'm not as concerned with the speed as the price. I'm a firm believer that the cheapest compact flash cards (meaning the plain jane Sandisk cards) would be fast enough for about anything I ever shoot, including sports. I'm getting ready to do a 'test' between my standard sandisk 1gb card and my sandisk ultra 2 1gb card. I know the ultra 2 will outperform the standard card, but I believe the standard card is good enough.
Anyone have thoughts on that?
