No- its a valid point :) The really issue is to look for peer reviewed information, not just the point of view of someone who you have no idea if they know what they are talking about or not.

Was reading John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide last night and there is a 3 page section on teleconverters.
It reiterates the fact that there is _no_ difference between a 'real' 200mm lens and a 100mm with a 2x converter when it comes to depth of field at equivalent apertures and subjects.
The lens with a teleconverter on it for all intents and purposes acts just like the 'real' lens.
The teleconverters do introduce some level of additional distortion and obviously they make the lens slower but there are no other effects.
Btw - that book is easily one of the best, most detailed and well explained photography books I own.
