Throughout the Sticky challenge, my image opened after 3 votes at a very respectful score, but within 1 hour had dropped to 4.6, with comments saying the white balance needed adjusting, (for the record the white balance was set at AWB and not moved).
This challenge was done under the advanced editing rules, and IMO honey is a warm subject that is collected from flowers.
Has photography become that staid that creativity has gone out the window.
“THE HONEY FOUNTAIN” was created with the above in mind, and rather than change the WB, I set to create a rich warm effect to bring the honey alive. Using Highlight & Shadow color adjustments by Split Toning in the RAW processing.
Hue -10 Red -15 Yellow
Saturation +25 Red + 25 Yellow
Luminance + 45Red + 85 Yellow
Color Split Toning Highlights Hue 40 Saturation 65
Shadows Hue 35 Saturation 90
Cropped
In Photo shop reduced the Saturation Red – 30.
I do not consider myself in the upper shelf of photography, but it would be nice to see a photo voted on for its merit, of meeting the challenge and presentation.
I would like to thank those few that did comment.
This is not sour grapes just wishing an understanding.

The first thing that I noticed were the extreme shadows, making the composition a bit cluttered. The idea is excellent, I would have shot this from another angle as well...didn't participate or vote but would have given this entry a 5 or 6 |

I think this is just more what people expected to see. The yellow looked unintentional. You intentionally created what most people accidentally create by not having their white balance set correctly or not using Curves.

What you have done is what I did, but did not believe it had any WOW factor, went looking for the WOW, quite obvious I failed. |

Yea, I think you got the wrong WOW on this one, heh. I've been trying to think how to make what you were intending work and make it more obvious that it's intentional. All I've been able to come up with is that maybe if you pulled back a little and got more white area around the image. Then do your effect, but dodge and burn the edges creatively making a frame? Sorta.....

I agree with aliqui.
The photo seems very busy.
A simpler photo, with more white and maybe if you had blown all the surroundings and desaturated them a bit (esp the green leaves) so that the yellow of the honey(?) really stood out as being very golden and saturated
I hope you can visualize what I'm trying to describe |
