Exactly!!
I've found tons of information about that, but I need advices from people who have experience on PHP and MySQL, and would help by giving me (in their opinion) the best (clearest, easiest..) source of information.

Jeanseb, I took PHP and SQL/Oracle in college. For PHP we used this. I like the book. For SQL we used a huge gray book like this. I can't remember the exact book but I think it may have been that one. I didn't like it at all. Too thick and slow going. I've taken other languages and web design classes and I really like the Visual Quickstart series. They are short and to the point with good examples. Quick Start Books

Hope that helps!

The list of sites below are all great resources (some of the best out there) of information on the topics you have mentioned.

What more information are you looking for specifically? Sorry, I'm confused...

One other site, btw, is Web Monkey

My personal favorite of that list is HotScripts for tutorials and premade scripts/programs.

I got my start by reading tutorials at DevShed... and I use php.net on a daily basis.

I have no experience with computer programming, but have always wanted to learn to do a website. Do I need to have comp sci behind me and is being a webmaster the same as designing a web site? I thought the only thing I really had to learn was HTML. Guess I'm wrong with all those web sites that's been listed.

I've been building websites as a living for over 8 years. Back in '95 all you needed to know was HTML. Then came CGI and Perl scripts. Then came Microsoft and it was never the same again.

Building a flat (i.e. no interactivity) website is simple. No real reason to learn HTML these days when there are great programs like Dreamweaver to do it for you. Learning PHP/MySQL is a great web development (not design, which implies graphics) environment. I'm not as good as I would like to be, but I've done some pretty neat stuff with it.

I have to say that I was a bit lost and did not know where to start.

Thanks!

I was lazy, and decided not to bother learning yet another random programming language.

I took an open source, off the shelf solution and have started customising it. So far I've probably spent about 2 hours in total on this site

//mcgregorphoto.com

//www.phpnuke.org/ and //gallery.sourceforge.net for the packages that I'm using.

I am a very lazy person too, but it very much depends on what do you want to achieve.

There are lots of PHP "off the shelf solutions", most of them easily and highly customizable within their own rules and workflow.

You don't even need to know PHP really to do that.

A complete different matter is when and if you want to implement your own rules and workflow.
