I'm not a fan of comic books, but I met a DC comic artist today and got an autograph on one of his comics. Anyone have any idea if this is something that will have value one day?

did you try eBay? Anytime I have a question like this I check them first (which for me is, strangely, often). |

I did and I only found two of his comic books for sale, neither are autographed.

The artist is Shane Davis. He works for DC Comics. The comic is "Mystery in Space #1 (Nov 06) and there is no certificate. I had a newspaper assignment to go shoot photos of this guy, so I bought a comic and had him sign it while I was there just for the heck of it.

bag it, tag it, throw it in the vault. when he dies or you die, have the issue revisited, because before then, it's not going really be worth much more than a couple trips to starbucks ;-) |

1. did you get a photo of him signing the comic, it's as good as a certificate of authenticity.
2. Bag and board it with a non acid archival backboard and bag.
3. for pricing info check "Wizard the Guide to Comics" a monthly magazine about all things sequential art.
4. Don't expect to make any great amount of money off it for at least 20 years (if then) unless this artist becomes a really major player in the comics universe. Think Stan Lee, founder of Marvel or Alex Ross, considered by some to be the greatest in the last decade.
good luck |

Well If you just bought the comic there, than yeah... Its not worth much at all right now.
You have to remember, the people who will pay for that comic with his sig, are the ones who are fans of him. I have been out of the loop so I don't know who he is. Or if he has done other stuff or what...
So, If you got it to look for a pay off, you are in bad shape.
I suggest, you read the comic and see if you even enjoy it. If not, give it to some kid who will.
Comicbooking isn't about the next big payoff... It is able entertainment in imaginary worlds, of Space, Superheros, Dragons, and other Fantastical elements. They are ment to be read, rolled up and stuff in your back pocket, and traded with your friends.
I think this is part of the reason I stopped collecting, because of horders and those looking for the next big pay off...
Anyway, bottom line is... It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I have no interest in collecting comics or making a profit on this one. I think I'll just give it to the next collector i meet...
