Basketball season has just started, but I have already taken many photos.
At the end of the year I would like to put together a collection of the better one on Cd for all the parents.

What would be the best way to do this?

Right now I have just been pulling out a couple of the better ones and putting them in there own folder so I don't have to search for them later.

When I go to put them on the cd should I just put everything in one folder?
Should I make folders for different games, different players, etc..??

What should I do for resizing them?
Should I resize them down to 640x? and 300 dpi so they view ok on there monitors and they can get 4x6 or 5x7 prints from them?

Thought it best to ask this now so I can start doing it now with the photos I have picked out instead of at the end of the season.

I did something similar with my daughter's softball team last summer. I shot a few games, making sure to get every kid multiple times, and I gave every parent a CD with the full-resolution shots so they could make prints from them. I just put everything into the root directory, and nobody seemed to have any trouble viewing them or printing them.

I gave everyone the CDs for free... but made sure to have my contact information on the CD label. I actually got *thousands* of dollars in business as a result of this one CD! I did senior pictures for one of the girls' brothers, and one of the guys referred me to his marketing department, and I've done a few big projects for them. A little good will went a long way!

I didn't crop anything, but I did go through each one to make some minimal corrections to exposures, etc.

Make them a DVD slideshow.

alanfreed,

That sounds great.
I was thinking of resizing them because when I email them to people without making them smaller they are so big that they have to scroll to view other parts of the photo.

Did not know if it would be a problem or not if I did not resize them before putting them on a CD for others to view.

It would be great if I did not have to resize them, lots less work. :)

If I did leave them full-resolution they can alway's crop things the way they want at wal-mart or what ever other print shop they go to, right?

thanks for the reply.

How is that done?
They can view them in any dvd play and still have prints made from them?

You could set it up that way if you wanted to.

.

Here a great free program from a reputable source:

PhotoStory 3

The resulting video can be copied to CD or DVD.

That's awesome!
Been playing with it for about 30 minutes.
Created a little show with some music and my son says, cool!!

Wife liked it too.

Going to learn how to use it some more and use it at the end of the basketball season to put a little something together.

Thanks!!

If you buy the DVD plug-in for Photostory 3, you can also take advantage of the option that will actually leave the originals on the DVD in addition to the slide show. This way, they can watch the DVD on a regular player, and also access the hi-res files on a computer.

alanfreed,

I was just wondering about how I would do that or if that would work some how.
That is just what I would want to do.

The first slide show I did with music was playing on the pc with window media player.

Just a quick question if you don't mind. Will have to read up to learn it all too.

Once I create a slide show like I just did with music how do I save it or burn it to a dvd to be played on a dvd player that is connected to a tv?

Thanks so much for all the help on this.

Awesome stuff, you guy's are great!

You have to purchase a plug-in for the program in order to be able to burn it to a viewable DVD. I bought it, and it works well... I've made several pretty slick DVDs with it! It only costs around $20, if I remember correctly.

Once you have the plug-in, and go through the process of burning it to DVD, there's an option in there somewhere (a checkbox, or something like that) where you just choose that option and it'll save the original JPG files along with the DVD files.

EDIT: I see you beat me to it. Sorry to mislead you on the price -- here I thought it was $20, and it's only $19.99! :)

Every year I take thousands of shots of my son's travel soccer team (trying hard to get good action shots of all the boys and a few of the coaches). Then at the end of the season, I sort through and take the best 300-400 or so, make a slide show of them add music, throw it on a DVD, and give each parent a copy. By all accounts, they love it. Only one in three years has asked me for an original file to make an enlargement from. I do it all on the mac, with iphoto and iDVD. I use music from my library -- sometimes rock, sometimes classical or jazz, depending on the mood. If you sell the DVDs, which I don't, you might run crosswise with copyright laws if the music is not in the public domain. Good luck! Pete
