Can you please suggest as to how I can make this photo better?
I appreciate step by step assistance as I am not good with PP. I am using CS2 right now. Thank you so much. :)

Is it possible to get the original as doing much with the small file may not get you the results you want.

Here's my quick and dirty version.
If you like the result I can share the basic steps.

I cropped the top off since I found the brightness and the color distracting. The new crop keeps similar tones and brings attention to the sandy(?) area.
Levels adjustment using white and black points. I reduced the blue tone some so the earth colors came through a bit more.
Curves adjustment to brighten and darken selective areas, namely the sandy(?) area and the OOF ground.
Sharpened and added the letterbox border to enhance the widescreen feel. |

I love your rendition. Also, the sandy area that you mentioned isn't sand. It's frozen lakes. :)
I will try it and see if I can replicate.
Thank you so much! Very much appreciated. :) |

Light tone mapping and neat image applied. Could do much better with large original.

This was a pretty basic edit, I left your crop as it was, did adjustment layers, Neat image, and then resized and sharpened.

Levels (RGB 3,1.11,255)
Curves (slight s-curve)
Hue/Saturation (pumped up the saturation a bit +10)
USM (176%, .5 radius, 0 threshold)
Brightness/Contrast (+13 brightness, +11 contrast)
Neatimage (used to filter noise, not sharpen (Noise levels -60% High, -35% Mid))
These are kind of approximate as I can't tell the exact settings changes made in my original PP just the steps followed. The result is more or less the same but I think the settings above actually create a slightly better image that the quick and dirty original.
Hope this helps!
Merry Christmas!
