The Nikon D200 has a ‘Flexible Programmed Auto Exposure Mode’ – I presume other camera manufacturers have some equally snappy title for their equivalentâ€Â¦
With Flexible Programmed Auto Exposure ON if you change the Shutter speed the camera will calculate the Aperture (Shutter priority) and if you change the Aperture the camera will adjust the Shutter speed (Aperture priority).
So is there any valid reason to still have specific, dedicated, Aperture and Shutter priority modes? Can̢۪t they just simplify the choice of exposure mode to Manual / Auto and have the user use Auto as Shutter or Aperture priority as preferred?

My 350D doesn't have that function... Not that I'm aware of at least. Just has P, Av, Tv, and M. Must be some funky Nikon thing.

This is one area where Nikon is thinking very smart. Auto-ISO is another thing that Nikon has done nicely. A "Programmed Auto" mode makes sense, but I'd not want to give up specific Av and Tv modes. Sometimes you want to be sure you're locked to one setting of aperture or shutter speed.

Some days I wish they'd micro-code the exposure selection algorithms so that I could upgrade my own script to explain the aperture/shutter speed/ ISO trade-offs that I want to make.
