who was he and besides family and friends, exactly who is and why will they miss him? Did a lot of people know him or something?

Probably the most recognised teacher and author in the area of colour management, amongst other reasons.

Bruce was a major, major force behind the development of Photoshop into the photographer-responsive tool that it has become. He also wrote the two standard texts for serious Photoshoppers: "Real World Photoshop" and "real World Color Management". I can't believe he's passed; he was in his early 50's.

As Kirbic said, he will be missed. Big-time :-(

Goodness, what a shock. Too young, too young.

His book on processing RAW files using Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop has been really instrumental to my understanding and development of my own workflow.
