Kudos to Cindi for hooking everybody up with the link to Rangefinder. I got my first issue today. I really enjoyed the article about Todd Heisler, Jim Scheeler and the piece they done for the Rocky Mountain News,a local paper in Denver. The photos by themselves tell a story as well as the article that goes along with it.
The link below will take those of you that didn't subscribe or haven't yet got your 1st issue to the article. It is a great read with some very powerful images to go along with it.

That is a cool magazine. Do you also get Studio Photography magazine? That's also free.

I have also received my first issue. I think it took about 2-3 months from when I first subscribed. Great service for the price! I haven't looked through it yet, but I may have a chance while waiting for roll-over tonight. :-) |

I received my first copy the other. The magazine is filled with great pictures and I can't wait to start reading. The picture on the cover with the plane is haunting.
Thanks Cindi!

I received my first copy yesterday. I have to say I was surprised by the quality of it. The photos are amazing and I think (hope) they will inspire me to become better. |

I just got my first copy the other day as well, all I can say is thanks to Cindi for brining this magazine to my attention. The photos are fantastic but the article about the Rocky Mountain News photographer brought me to tears. Being a former Navy photographer I know how hard it is to shoot funerals but, the compassion the photog brought to the story, WOW.

Absolutely! I rec'd my copy yesterday. Checked out the photos, haven't read any articles yet.
I have to say the level of photography illustrated by the various winners published in this issue is stunning, and ARTISTIC! Nothing like what you see here at DPC (with exceptions of course). That's not a slam on DPC, the images submitted here for challenges tend to be more "stock photoish" (new word?) - you know, clean and simple, get the voters attention quick kind of shots. Many of the images in this Rangefinder publication were story tellers that compelled a longer look.
Is this the type of photography normally published in Rangefinder, or was this an anomoly (being Best of the Year)?
Thanks for sharing this Cindi. :D |

Thanks Cindi! |
I read the article and the captions with the photo that go with the plane photo. It brought me to tears. Its a very powerful and moving story and I'm not sure I could have ever shot those photos at all. I'm not sure I'm a strong enough person to be able to do that. Very powerful images. I'm glad I have a subscription. Di told me about this several months back and I love it.

They always have excellent photography and great articles - I've saved every issue I've ever gotten and most have post-it flags sticking out of them all around. :)
Crystal - for Studio Photography... look for Subscribe on the left hand side of the page about 1/2 way down, that should take you to subscription page, tell it start new subscription...

How do you sign up for a free subscription (the Studio one)? I tried two different times and it denied me saying I didn't meet their strict guidelines. I am not even close to professional, I need all the help I can get! Any suggestions on how to fill to application out to get it free would be greatly appreciated! |

lie. :)
well, don't LIE-lie. lie like on-your-resume-lie.
perhaps "embellish" is a better term?
i dunno. i put down the bare minimums, really: freelance graphic artist with 1 employee (me) spending less than $10K on equipment (uh, WAY less) and they let me in the club. |

Been getting Rangefinder now for nearly a year (maybe more actually).
It's certainly one I look forward to every month in spite of all the ads. |

give yourself a studio name and title (owner, photographer, piaffe images) or something like that.
