Thinner isn't better. She's a cute gal just as she is.
The pose is the problem. -Armpit, just not appealing to me and it make the shot awkward looking.

I think she is rather pretty but the pose looks like she is trying to crack her neck or something. |

It might not change your opinion but I'd bet everything that I owned that the slimmer model version would have easily outscored the one Leroy entered.

I'm sorry, my personal opinion is that if you think the fact that she's not the ideal model didn't affect this score, you're either on crack, or cocaine, or possibly meth, acid, or DMX all toghether.
Just IMO. :P
Leroy, raging against the machine gets you eaten here, you know that. Stop trying to forget it.

If you like the shot then what's the problem?
However...
Damn man, your own portfolio has some killer images in it. For you to look at this photo and think it is anywhere near the level of something like Industrial Bronze... |

Thank you :-) I'm not sure it's of that quality... but I like to experiemnt. Ofcourse I could flat light all my portraits and probably score well across the board.

No question. Its more of a subconsiuos thing. Not...oh she is sorta plump, I will vote it down. People equate beautiful photos with beautiful people in shots like this. |

I gave it a 6. But, I had assumed it was a self portrait. If I had known it was Leroy's shot... j/k. The pose does look awkward, and I definitely don't discriminate based on weight or looks.

This image says "smell my armpit". Yuck!
Had you posted this on an armpit fetish site, you'd have gotten a blue ribbon for sure. For most people, that's just not an appealing part of the body to highlight.
Not to mention, the lighting's not doing her any favors either.

I know my scores probably don't rate me judging your images but I wanted to respond.
I have to agree with the others about her pose, I did not see the other images of her until mentioned here and I have to say I like them a lot (and not just cause I like fuller woman or cause it was nude). Other than the breast in the background (right one?) being a little odd looking due to the lighting in the light on white image, I found both images right up there in your normal high quality. She is a very pretty young woman and I think this pose was a dis-service to her.
Saying that, I must praise you for always striving for something different. I myself have a hard time trying something new and if I do it is usually very short lived. That is the way we learn and grow, not only as a photographer but as viewers of someone trying something new. (did that make any sense?)

I don't get why people find the pose "uncomfortable". The lines it creates makes for an interesting composition. Besides its not like Leroy was painting her and she had to hold that pose for long time.

Leroy: just for consideration, here's a pic of a very good looking woman that only landed 5.5:
I seem to recall similar comments about the joints being cut off, flat lighting, etc.

I like the light on white entry. I think a higher crop would have helped that one because the lighting made her right breast look "odd." I would have probably voted that one a 7 or 8, and I am a prude. (shhhhh, don't tell anyone).
I wanted to post the thumb of this one 'cause it is truly a great portrait, I think, and needs to be looked at.:) In the diagonal challenge, I probably would have given it a 5 or 6 simply because the diagonal element wasn't really strong for me. However, in a portrait challenge, this would have scored a 9 or 10. This is a shot she should definitely be proud of. |

To me this model suffers from a severe case of "please the photographer." I get the impression that she's trying to create a pose that you want her to assume. My suggestion: Let this nice lady range free to try what she is comfortable with, and see what happens then when you record the scene. |

My Cliff Notes on possibilities and a couple opinions:
* Instant impression is that it's a candid snapshot.
* Candid snapshots are good, but need emotion, mood, a look, etc.
* Pose is a bit unnatural and looks like too much trying is happening.
* Lighting is even, but shadow takes this out of a studio-type shot, back to snapshot.
* Armpits generally do not go over well when they become a strong focal point as suggested by the arm position.
Like I said, possibilities and a couple opinions.
