Why not simply say the diagonal doesn't enhance the image, or looks forced, or doesn't work for you, or whatever? That's a perfectly valid opinion to offer. All you need to know to comment is what *you* think.

My goal is to vote 100% on the the challenge once I start voting. I don't feel it fair to only vote on a few. But I must agree it seems the voters are hiding. I like the way things are done here at DPC but maybe a trial run at a different voting style could help boost the challenge votes. Trouble is people don't like change because it can create more troubles than its worth.

Back to finishing voting.

Looks like I'm okay in that regard. Guess I can take a break for a while :D

Why do you want so many votes? After the first 100, scores rarely change very much. Unless you are a front runner those fractions of points don't realy matter. I am in the camp that says "Vote thoughtfully on fewer images and give better comments." Since images are presented randomly (and presuming no cherry picking) everyone should get about the same number of votes. Voting should be fun, not a chore.

Your theory is good, providing that people actually vote on their randomly assigned order of photos. If they pick and choose then results could be skewed.

I guess my concern is that people voting on only a few images will tend to cherry pick which images they review. It seems logical to me that "cherry pickers" will concentrate on either the best or the worst images, leaving the "average" image alone. For those of us not in the running for ribbons, we still have our goals. Finishing with an overall 6.0 or better for a new personal best, for example. But if the "high" cherry pickers skip the average images, and a few cherry picking trolls single out an image for a low score, then the scores can skew low.

The higher number of votes will give truer differentiation for those of us in the vast middle of the pack for whom finishing a few percentile points higher can be meaningful. Also, fewer voters generally means fewer comments. The feedback of the comments is one of the best features of the site. When I vote a challenge, I try to vote 100% and to comment at least 10% and hopefully 15%.

Voting can be a chore at times, but I think of it as an obligation for those that are submitting photos. By submitting a photo you are asking for the community to view and vote on your work, you have an obligation to reciprocate, IMO.

This is a good one. I am not sure that there is a long Liszt of people who got it...
