I wrote this on another bored just thought I'd share here:
Thursday night I was voting on the Free Study challenge and realized I left an assignment at home, so I shut my computer started on my way home from school I got into a really really really bad accident on the highway. I started spinning when I was switching lanes and think I skid on ice or sand and my car flipped over a few times and went far down the side of a hll into a ditch. My car was smashed into about 1/4 the size it was. Also, my stuff was scattered absolutely everywhere. The whole backside of my car was smashed in and my roof was touching my back seats, the only part of the top of my car not smashed in was the driver side and passenger side.
I lost about $400 in photography stuff in the trunk, not too much..just my background stand equipment was destroyed and 5 of my seamless backdrops were destroyed and a few new tripods and then my product photography set up and lights. My laptop was in my car, and part of it got broken off, but it is fixable.
It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I uggs were flown about 10 feet from my car off of my feet and my heels are a mess because they got so jammed. My seat belt left a huge welt and bruise on my shoulder from being flung upside down and slamming my head on the ceiling and I have bruises all over my body, and a giant bump on my head, but other than that I'm fine. I also cracked my front teeth and bit my tongue pretty bad, but nothing too bad. I can't believe my airbag didn't go off though.
My driver side door opened up before the first flip and there is no doubt that if I hadn't had my seatbelt on, something much worse would have happened. Just a little warning.
Here are some pictures:

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the gear and the car (not to mention the injuries!).
Like you said, it could have been much worse. Glad it wasn't! |

It is good that you are relatively ok.
The car seemed to crush more than I would expect. I'd want the entire cabin to retain integrity, not just the driver section, I mean if people were sat in the back the car does not seem to offer them much protection.

That is amazing (and I'm glad to hear) that you're still walking after that. The photo stuff can be replaced, but body parts are as readily available. Take it easy, hope your wounds heal up nicely. It can be really scary to drive again after a horrible crash like that, but remember, the longer you wait the harder it will be to do it again. |

I'm glad to hear you're okay. I just had an accident a few hours back myself but mercifully we got away with minimum damage...
My car hit a dog (or a jackal the police had mysteriously declared...) on the motorway at a really fast speed... It was raining and pitch black.. We never saw the animal coming and, suprisingly enough, the car kept on moving smoothly after we hit it.. I'm glad we didn't slip as you did or we would have gone and hit oncoming traffic..The car bumper got smashed but that's just minor..
After accidents one can only wonder if things could have gone worse and if lesser troubles kept away the more tragic ones... And yes seatbelts are very good things..
Hope you're feeling better..

Glad to hear you are OK.
Good thing you were wearing your seatbelt or you'd probably look as bad as your car.

wow, that's so scary, I'm glad you made it out relitively unscathed. About your front teeth...I'm going to school to be a Dental Assistant and I don't know how much of the tooth's crown got broken off, but I would suggest you get tooth implants. They cost a little bit more but last 10x longer than crowns as well as look and function much better. If your teeth are broken, veneers are out of the question. Ask me if you have any more questions or would like to send me a pic of your mouth. I can't diagnose, but I can offer my opinion (since I'm not a dentist). Good Luck and get well soon! |

With the airbag not going off like it should have maybe Honda should pay for the chipped teeth! heh |

Wow! Thank God you're ok. Glad you snapped some photos to go with the story. Woulda been cool to have snapped a few during the event, but you were probably busy screaming. ;-)
Seriously, I'm glad you posted the story and that it wasn't your next of kin posting. Did you have good insurance? Was anyone else involved? |

... but we're glad you were able to.
Were your heels just bruised like you describe the rest of you as being, or was it something more serious?

Dang, glad you're okay Anne. I can't imagine what would have happened if that were us, we usually leave the backpack and bag open. I can just imagine lenses and SLRs flying everywhere. ew.
Stay safe out there, some people say this winter is going to be pretty harsh.

Luckily, my camera wasn't in my car. I can only imagine if it were!
<>
No one else was in my car. Insurance wise, I just had $4000 in hail damage to my car and a few months ago I had my purse stolen (it was a big 18th birthday present, a well over $1000 purse so sad) and my window was broken out, ipod stolen, dance bag stolen etc etc. According to some book my car is worth about $7000 now, but we aren't sure yet if the $4000 they gave us for hail damage (we fixed it) is going to play into how much we get.
My heels are just bruised (was told they are very very hard to break) I can't walk on my right one, but hey...at least I can walk. My left wrist is sprained real bad. Still have a huge bump on my head and chip on my tooth and hole in my tongue (not really a hole, but it feels like it).
I just got my backdrop stand and my backdrops less than a month ago :(
I had two of my clients come over to my house and bring me gifts though, it was so sweet, they were the cutest little boys and it definitely made my day.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes, it means a lot. |

Yikes! I'm glad you're around to talk about it. I, myself, am a firm believer in seat belts (long before it became law).

Ouch!
Glad you are okay though. The airbag probably did not deploy as there may not have been a hard enough impact on the front end of the car. |

So glad you are okay, things can be replaced (at a cost of course!) but a life can't. Hope you heal quickly.
Talking about pictures you hope you never have to take which was the title of this post I had the misfortune of taking some very unpleasant pictures a few weeks ago. A friend of mine and two of his friends were riding along the side of a county road, about a quarter a mile from home when some guy veered off the road missing the first two boys and hitting the third horse nearly straight head on. It is a miracle that the boy suffered only cuts and bruises but the horse took the full brunt of the impact (which saved the boy for sure) and boy did it show, it would have been a different story if he had hit them more side on. I had to take pictures of the scene and the horse (one that I have known personally for years) and it was very unpleasant. It has taken me three weeks to be able to look at them again because I have to prepare them and a report for the lawyer. Oh and the guy who hit them said "I was only doing 55mph"!!!!!

Depending on how new the vehicle is (side curtain airbags), most airbags go off from front end collision. Not sure if sides would go off in a rollover either though.
Glad your okay. Ever notice you hear a lot more "testimonials" from people WEARING seatbelts than not? ie: Had an accident to my ED just prior to Thanksgiving...7 guys on the way to work in a Suburban. Rolled off the highway at 75mpg. 6 were belted and one not. Guess who had minor abrasions and sore areas? Now guess which one was ejected and rolled over on by the vehicle?
