Man, the Panasonic LX2 looks to be a great camera, except for that crappy sensor. Why won't Panny put a decent sensor in there?
I am dying for a high quality compact for travel, etc. Why can't someone make one?!? Panasonic is so close!

The Panasonic sensor is only 'crappy' by dpreview standards. I'm sure for normal day-to-day use the image quality is quite acceptable (otherwise Panasonic would have gone out of business by now)
But if you're going to take an ISO1600 macro shot of a postage stamp by candlelight and examine the noise level.... then quality might be a problem. ;-) |

FWIW I have the LX1, with an even crappier sensor.
Makes a great travel cam as long as I don't shoot the higher ISOs

Fuji has the opposite problem. They have an awesome compact sensor in the F30, but lacking the big glass and features of the Pany LX2. It seems like the Canon 700/800IS has a good compromise, but no RAW :-(
