Hooray, I've added a new feature! (Thank God for holiday vacations!)
DPC has it's ribbons - I've added medals to the PPChallenges: Meet gold , silver, , and bronze .
The medals are displayed on the home page, the challenge pages (11, 10, 9, etc.), and in your stats page. The stats page is also what other users see when they click on your name anywhere on the site - like the profile pages here.
Medals have been retroactively added for all previous challenges (excluding #1, which was not hosted on the site).
Note that there was a tie for third place in challenge #11 (and there have been others). The home page is only able to show 3 images, so it's random who gets the limelight. However, both users (traquino98 and Noel_ZH in this case) get a bronze medal. Ties will become more rare as the number of voters increases.
Speaking of number of voters, there are 91 registered users now on PPChallenge! Thanks for signing up, all, and keep inviting your DPC friends! The more, the merrier!
Feel free to reply here or PM me with ideas and suggestions or improvements and new features.
And of course, congrats to freakin_hilarious for his winning edit in Challenge #11:
And Challenge #14: Shoreline is now open to submissions - thanks to keegbow for this submission:
Cheers,
-Jeff

After you register, it shows up below, near where you can upload your submission. A link called "Click here to download the original image at full resolution".
This question has been asked before, maybe I'll try to make it more clear. Thanks.

By the way: you are now be able to leave comments on images after voting has finished. Be careful, though - you currently can't edit them. I'll do that another day... I'm sleepy! =)

Yeah I just found it to and I thought a bunch of the challenges were done just through threads, I am in #13, but I don't quite know when the voting starts. Another wonderful way to waste time :)

You can only do one challenge at a time, and since you are signed up for #13 you can't do #14, I am in the same situation.
Edit De Sousa, you can enter #14 now that #13 is in the voting stages :)

Well, it looks like challenge #14 has filled up. I'm glad to see there's a lot of interest.
I'll post another challenge later today - however, it would help a lot if I could get more submissions for images to edit. It's fun to see how others would edit your shots, but I'm running low on interesting images. =)
In the meantime please vote and comment, and report any problems or suggestions you have.
Oh, and anyone with special characters in your DPC username (like David.C) - I'm looking into fixing that as well.
Cheers,
-Jeff

Why is there a limit to the number of entries? |

Because comparing 100 versions of the same image would be difficult if not impossible.

Exactly. If anyone has a better idea of how to do this, I'd love to hear it.
My vision was that if theer were a lot of people using it, there would be a lot of image submissions, and it could sustain a lot of simulatneous challanges. But maybe that's not the best method...
Maybe a multi-phased approach to voting (playoffs with elimination and finals with only a handful of images.) Though there'd still be a lot of images to sift through in the "playoff" round.

I like the limit. If you didn't have that then it would degrade the overall quality of the edits, IMO as more and more would have to be done to it just to stand out even though the photo doesn't need it. Basically the same problem the DPC challenges have where people jack up the saturation, sharpeness and only go with the "hit you over the head" cliche ideas just so they can stand out and do well. Less entries means voters might actually look at the photos for more than a half a second.

Just to throw up some ideas.....
To allow more people to compete you could possibly have two separate competitions one with basic editing rules and the other with advanced editing on the same image run simultaneously or even three competitions with the same image and third rule set being a anything goes?

A couple thoughts after being part of the site for awhile:
1. If people download the image, they are registered and a spot is held for that challenge whether a picture is submitted or not. Perhaps making it so that the spot is not held, and the first 16 who upload their images are the ones in the challenge.
2. Increase the amount of entries to 20 or so, allowing for just a few more folks to join in.
3. Always have two or more challenges going at once, but everyone is only allowed to enter one of those at a time (just as the exclusive challenges are done). Of course it would help to have more people giving you submissions of originals.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Ok, so here's what I've done for now:
- Introduced two official rule sets: DPC Advanced Editing rules and PPC Creative Editing rules. The rule sets show up under the compete page, and when voting/viewing in the "Challenge Description" section.
- Made the compete page more clear as to dates and rules
- Increased the max participants to 20 (I may increase this further for PPC Creative Editing challenges, as the output images will tend to be more varied, I would think.) And like you said, there often aren't as many submissions as registrants, anyway.
I also created 2 perks for people who submit images:
- The original author is now be able to join the challenge even if it is full.
- Added an "originals medal" of the stats page , which is awarded to people who's original image submissions are used in editing challenges. As a small token of thanks for contributing. Shows up after voting is complete. See it in action on the stats pages of idnic and 777STAN.
By the way, thanks to timfythetoo, who submitted this great image - which is now open for submissions as Challenge #15:
Cheers,
-Jeff

In the results page, I'd suggest not to show the original pic everytime I browse through entries. Everytime it downloads, eats traffic and slows the connection. I'd prefer to see only entries and leave a link to the original.
And also I'd suggest the site remember me, so not to login every new session. |

Not saying it isn't (don't know), but the image should not be downloading every page. The browser cache should hold it long enough to just load from the hard drive instead of re-downloading it.

Now that Thanksgiving vacation is over, I may not be as quick at implementing some of these changes, but thanks for the suggestions.
Congrats to lorene on this very nice edit in Challenge #12:
Tomorrow Challenge #14 will be in the voting stage.
Cheers,

Just a tiny tiny suggestion... Can you make the PPChallenge logo link to the home page? I always click it to no avail :P |
