I'm an ex-sufferer of G.A.S. - Having built up quite a collection of all sorts of electronic gadgets over the years.
However, I'm feeling a relapse coming on. The other day I bought a new mobile phone for my dad. Instead of just handing him the box to open, I made the mistake of opening it myself... And when that beautiful aroma of new plastic hit me I could have sat there for an hour just sniffing the phone.
I really think manufacturers spray something into the box before shipping to make that the best part; opening the box and unwrapping whatever you've just bought.
And then what happens? - You start using it, the novelty wears off, the smell wears off, and you get distracted by the next thing on the list.
The following hobbies are the worst for the syndrome - Astronomy, Music, Photography, and Golf. I speak from experience. And God help you if you get interested in Astrophotography; time to re-mortgage the house. |

Hi, my name is kirbic, and I've got G.A.S. No doubt about it. It's been in remission lately, but I know it's only a matter of time before it flares up again. Once you are infected with the G.A.S. virus, you're never rid of it. |

I've had G.A.S for years. The tablets didn't help.
4 cans of Stella don't help, but by then you don't really care.

Have you ever bought gear "ahead of a job" knowing that you were going to get paid enough to cover the gear ... and then after you got paid, went out and spent the money again?!? I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS! (shhh... don't tell the wife!)

I think it's a cat faramone. Whenever I bring something new home my cat sleeps in the box for 2 weeks. |

There's not too much gear I can buy without a DSLR (which I'm likely to get soon), except for another camera, and another. But in between I'll buy any little bit of junk I see that might be useful in a photo ONE DAY. The trouble is actually getting around to using them all.

Haha! I thought I was the only one! Same thing with the wife too, good thing she has no idea what this stuff really costs! |

I had a relapse the other day. I think it was primarily brought on by alcohol consumption though. I ordered a Canon 2x extender. That 300mm F/4 L IS is causing me problems also. I may relapse again soon.
