The highest score with Canon S1-IS is 6.8298 only. Mine is 6.2819.
(I think no one has yet got a Blue ribbon with this).
Is it dependent upon equipment too?
It is also a challenge for the Canon S1 club. |

Yes, I have seen. But they are with Minolta Dimage 7Hi camera, which is perhaps fairly advances camera. (Not sure if it is DSLR or not).
Yeah. Now I have seen this too!

You may wish to revisit his portfolio... he did manage to ribbon with a much lesser camera.

Yes, it does/did. I still miss mine. It had a sensor issue after about 200K actuations and I didn't want to send it to Sony for repair since I already had another camera. So in a whim I gave it to my now former-boyfriend, who sent it to Sony & fixed it for $225. :/

Megapixels are meaningless here. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets better quality resizing since he doesn't have to resize much to get it down to 640x. Besides we all know it's not the camera it's the photoshop! *cough*andthatdamncreativity*cough*

The higher the amount of owners, the larger the chance of a higher *top* score, imho. |

I think the Canon S1 is one hell of a camera, not something limiting, IMHO. |

What I find limiting in this camera is smallest and widest apertures (the smallest is f8), and Focal length at Wide angle side (which should have been at least 24mm in any digital camera). |

well, I agree that the widest at 38mm leaves a lot to be desired if you're taking wide angles often. But then again, I was merely replying to your original post about how this camera had scored in DPC. Like some had pointed out, it's more about whether a lot of people are using it or not. The more people using it, the higher the chances that the camera will have ribbons/high scores.
Edit: I was lonely with the Fuji S5600 but have sold it, and now is using a better camera, hoping for more competition in DPC

It was interesting to note that top 5 scorer photographs with Fuji S5600 are by YOU.
Keep it up. |

Hey, take me for example... I have been away from DPC for over a year, have never meddled in a challenge with my old equipment... and now make a living out of cinematography. This "living" has given me many high end cameras and lenses (2 D2xs's and a few more not in my profile that hit ebay last week). Now, I am back to take the crown (i hope) with $30K invested in Nikons but both time and space do not serve me well at the moment so I am left to shoot San Francisco for every new challenge. My highest ranked photo was my first. And now that i have color correction nailed and printers costing more than my first car I should be a shoe in right? Not exactly; This is art. It takes time, and practice. I have 20 years of photography under my belt and I just can't find the right subject and the right time to enter a challenge. Now my wife has my D70 and on a trip to the zoo with our cameras... Her with my old D70 and a $100 70-300 F4-5.5 (about $700 today) and me with a D2Xs and a 70-200 VR AFS F2.8 (about $7000) whom gets the best shot? She dose. So look at it this way... It's not the camera, it's the photographer, and it's not the photographer... It all comes down to the split second between thought and action (shutter lag not included) that makes a snapshot a masterpiece. I'm just hoping to improve my odds.

I love the versatility of my Powershot Pro 1. I haven't won ribbons yet but I've done ok and I don't have to change lenses. hee hee
Look at the work SJCarter did prior to his newer camera, as well as Joey Lawrence. It's not the camera, although it certainly can aid in the capture you are going for. |

The optics are beautiful in my cheapy Kodak Z650 ... I only wish it would have a max exposure ceiling of more than 8 seconds and a closed down aperture of more that f8. THEN it would be an AWESOME camera for the money. |
