If you want to make it really challenging, limit it to Point & Shoot camera, JPEG format only (no RAW conversion), and NO POST PROCESSING (other than resize for web). Then we'll see just how good the photographer is. :)

Mine has one, but how in the heck do you use it?! :D

BTW, how DO you get phone pics onto the PC?! I guess if you have BlueTooth or something maybe?

I think Mist answered it well, but yes, you basically have a couple of options on cell phone shots:

1) If your phone manufacturer makes software AND your cell provider allows PC transfer, you use a mini-USB cable. Example of the AND statment is that Motorola makes software for their phones. I think only Verizon has a deal that prevents you from using the software.

2) You can email (provided your phone will do this) yourself your photo.

What? :) I didn't mean to start an arguement. I was just thinking it would make a fun challenge. I mean, you then have to figure out everything regarding dof, lighting, etc with no post adjustments. Kind of lack a potato sack race. No one wants to do one, but it's entertaining watching people fall over due to the challenge limitations. :D

Not looking to light anything up (well, not at work anyway ;-) j/k).

pardon my ignorance... but how would SC know if it was post-processed or not? not to mention, i would HAVE to post-process a little for size, my camera won't take a pic that small.

I think it boils down to personal integrity. If you know what the challenge criteria/rules are, then follow them. If a cheater wants to cheat, they are going to find a way to do so. Hopefully there are few if any of those here and from the forum peeps I've seen, most seem like pretty good/honest people. I know some of the feedback I've gotten has been VERY honest ;-)

edit: agreed, that was my comment regarding Resize for Web (resize the shot). Just no other touch ups/conversions.

My first blue was taken with a point & shoot, but I guess back then (4 years ago) most cameras were p&s. There was the odd rich kid with his Canon 10D on here, but generally it was p&s every challenge.... yeah, I can see some of the kids here thinking "everyone had a p&s??"..

Its true I tell you.. one lens and you were grateful for it.

Dont talk to me about Smart Media either, those little thin strips of plastic that paraded around as memory cards.. I remember the day I got my first 64mb SM card and I could hold over 140 images on that. and we didnt have CCDs in our cameras either, it was a little prehistoric bird, that chipped the image onto a slate of rock....

ITS TRUE!!!

You are required to keep an unedited, original file for validation purposes in all challenges. The EXIF data on this file will tell the SC what camera was used for the shot, and comparison of the original to the actual entry will expose any post processing that sneaks in. Plus, resizing would specifically be allowed, as would be rotating the image 90 degrees if it's a vertical shot.

My cameraphone has more megapixels than my first digital camera.

I suppose that's a sign of my age ;)
