anyway .... does anyone know how to get this effect??
notice the very slow shutter speeds .. does the photographer follow the subject with the camera? ... and wot setting would you use on the 400D for that sort of shot ...
like with the AF, would you go AI servo? ..
and any other setting suggestions would be welcome ..
thanks ..

thanx ivan for your comment on my fences entry ... 'About the sky, yes, it is quite distracting, there are different ways to sort that out specially if you are shooting RAW. Here a useful tutorian on blending exposures'
the sky burning out is one of my constant problems ...
for anyone else having similar problems, then check this out from ivan ...

Hey Guys!
First & foremost, I am a fierce WOMAN! I aint no dude, even tho I refer to evryone as dude. hehehe. Second, I view this particular space we are sharing as a collective. Let's all share & take responsibility on how we can use this thread to support, challenge and dare I say, inspire each other.
Hope to enter a shot real soon. Perhaps the Best of 2006 challenge ending 2morrow.
peace
rooster (I am woman, here me ROAR!)

Hi Roz, sorry I didn't see this before. I have one shot that did ok here at DPC . I took that one with the Fuji s5000z ISO200 Shutter 1/80. Your setting will depend on the light you have available, slow enough to catch some motion blur but not enough to blow all the highlights. You have to follow the subject with your camera so that he/she/it will remain focused. Its not easy. Also consider its speed the faster it goes the faster shutter speeds you may use.
Today I learned that the closer you are to the subject the easier to get it focused while getting the motion blur, but you will need slower shutter speed. If your are a bit far then its easier to get a blurry background but way more difficult to keep your subject in focus. If its an horizontal surface then the tripod might prove to be helpful. I normally shoot handheld and I have a couple of good results for the challenge next week.
Hope this helps. Here another example ;)
Edit to add: I tried today both AI servo and one shot focus. I prefer one shot. First, I focus where I believe my subject will be then I follow it until it reaches that point then shoot and follow. AI servo it's useful when you can follow your subject all the way but some times the camera doesn't change the settings as fast as you need. For example when your subject is coming out from a curve and the distance changes quickly between you and the subject the camera is not as fast as required sometimes.

hi ivan ...
thank you for your tips on panning ..
i've actually entered one in the match challenge instead ... a lot easier!!! .. but i'm gonna print off your stuff on panning so i can read it away from the computer and when i've got the time ...
hope you're having fun in badass and ppl are behaving themselves!!
i'm temporarily with imagenation while one of their members recovers in hospital from some nerve thing, i think ... i'll probably just do this season with them .. it worked out real well .. this way i can see if i've got wot it takes to be on a team!! ... coz once you're on one i reckon you wouldnt want to leave unless you had a very good reason?

excellent work dude! Nice contrast and lighting. Beautiful model, fantasic portrait. Congrats on your 5.9!
This was mine. It's a self portrait, and after I submitted it, I realized that my nose was kind of blurry. oops. But I liked my eyes in it, and that's basically why i chose it. I did ok with a 5.5. Any critiques from my fellow brilliant teammates is always welcome!
ROCK out TEAM!

hi everyone ..
and welcome manish ... manniagni
magen, magenmarie thats a beautiful self portrait, i left a long comment on it!! .. you should've gone in the 30 day self portrait challenge!! ..
this was my entry in the black and white portrait ... my daughter aLi is a very reluctant model and had just had a fight with boyfriend .. so i was lucky to get this shot which i felt really showed the emotion she was going thru ..

Would be happy to join you guys as an owner of a 400D and new member to DPC. I will be on the road travelling across Australia for the next few weeks before moving into a new house at the end of the month. If you are happy with me joining your team, I would be elated, just unable to participate right away.
Feel free to take a look at some of the images I have already uploaded to DCP.
My DPChallenge Portfolio
Kind Regards,
Mark Baker |
