Ok, episode 7 of the DPC podcast has been published and is ready for your review and comment. In part 1 of episode 7 Lee Farrell (lkn4truth) and Laurie Gaddis (L2) discuss the new editing rules at DPC, the HDR phenomenon, a dpc trivia contest, and stealing DPC photos and passing them off as your own which lasts for about 37 minutes. In part 2 of episode 7 I (lkn4truth) interview Joey Lawrence in an informal "getting to know you" format which lasts for about an hour. You can listen to the show at
www.dpcpodcast.com
TECHNICAL NOTES:
The file size has been drastically reduced. This show is broadcast at 48 kps instead of 128 kps which reduces the file size from 60 MB per hour episode to about 20 MB per hour without losing much, if any, sound quality. In addition, we have added iTunes tags to the show and are in the process now of submitting our show to iTunes. It is my understanding that iTunes will have to review the show before approving it for placement on their search engines so the show may not show for a couple of weeks until we work out the details. In the meantime, sea2c has previously posted instructions no how to manually add the show to iTunes.
As always, we love and NEED feedback so please let us know what you thought of this weeks show!

ok, this is probably the best one so far. What an inspirational young man. If we could all take a leaf out of Joeys book we would be so much better off as human beings.
Very well done in my opinion

I think these are great!! I am almost all the way thru from start to finish over the last few hours (I left the interview with Larus to last cause I wanted to listen without the kids as he is one of my fav photg).
I was disappointed with the sound quality on the interview with Patterson but I know you had tech issues for that one. The quality is generally pretty good - not outstanding but good. I noted he talks as he writes - in long sentences :-)
My only consistent thing; In general I would prefer better sound quality but I understand it's sometimes a trade off on size - although better quality mikes would help I think (getting a few P sounds as spikes). I am one of the few that don't care about iTunes although I understand that is important for a lot of people, so take my comments in that light :-)
Will add the new one on the end.... |

robs/lentil: thanks so much for the feedback. I'm working on increasing the sound quality while decreasing the file size. A lot of the problem comes from the programs I'm using to do the recording. I use skype for the conversation and a third party software to record it. If there is better software out there I can look into getting it but I don't have very much money and don't want to buy programs left and right on a whim that it might be better. I need a guarentee!

I was just notified that the dpcpodcast site may be down. I don't know if it has crashed due to excessive downloads or not. In a way that would be cool but we definately have to get that fixed. Does anyone have a place to host the files as a back up?

Looks like the site is up again...it may be experience periods of drop out if too many connect at the same time. Just keep trying if you have trouble getting in.

Thanks for reminding me of my back up option grandwazoo. Looks like it's working again but if I have any problems I'll ftp to your site. I am fairly positive I still have the email instructions.

I echo that #7 is (IMO) the best of them. It had a nice flow of back and forth and for the most part was a smother conversation then most of the others. Please keep it going, I am now caught up and will wait for each episode to be posted. |

Listening to episode 7 now... sounds great as usual! Just one quick question. I remember someone mentioning in one of these threads that links to the things being discussed would be helpful. Is that list somewhere on the podcast page that I'm just missing? If not, I'd love to see one added. Links to the different photographers and photos that are being discussed, so you can click while you listen. Keep up the great work! :)

iTunes will now update and download properly. This is a technical issue that Lee and I are forever trying to correct.
As for dpcpodcast dropping, it is like any other site on a server and is prone to stupidity. Thanks Micro$oft.
Anways, all should be happy now.

Thanks again for all the feedback and for those patiently waiting for us to get our act straightened out in iTunes. It's a lot more difficult than it looks on the surface. Producing a show is a very time consuming effort and I'm trying to minimize the work involved while at the same time incorporating a little of what everyone wants. Please continue to be patient while we work things out.
Thanks for listening!!!

Now I'm not complaining here but I've noticed that the ONLY comments I've received on specifics either here in the forum on elsewhere have all been on Joey's interview. Does this suggest that the only part people really want to hear is the member interviews? Would the show be better if the format was a 1 hour show...10 minutes or less of the host/co-host talking and 40 minute interview with 10 minutes wiggle room in case the interview or discussion goes long?

I just listened to the 2nd portion (Joey Lawrence interview). I think you did a great job with it, and yes, it was a good decision to 'get to know Joey' rather than spending a lot of time talking about specific photos. That's an excellent approach.

I only mentioned J in my last reply :-) Don't cut the banter with the latest challenges and storm in teacups stuff cause I find it useful and entertaining to hear.
I personally would like to see a 15-20 minute format on comments & stuff then a separate feed on the interviews - 60 minutes or so - but I know you are trying to keep them even (I could care less about bandwidth stuff, so I might be bad person to judge). This would allow for the times when there is no in-depth interview while keeping the shorter one current.
I am in two minds about the type of interview - The one with J was fun but didn't touch too much on his images whereas the one with Larus directly discussed several but was less reveling. It likely depends on the interviewee and how they talk but a mixture would be good - obviously not the easies of tasks :-)
Hope some non-J comments are useful - Oops, Just noticed that I mentioned him here too :-))
