I'm in New Zealand (GMT +12) and by the time I picked up my email I had about 45 minutes of daylight left on the 12th so my entry was very much a get something while you can. And this morning there are some great skies, the challenge is still open, but it's the 13th! And I'm stuck here at work...

As a fellow Kiwi I understand your pain. All going well I will shoot at lunchtime but I don't know if I'll get home in time to do any processing to it.

In future these 24hr challenges would be better if they fell on a weekend for all time zones - like the Self Portrait V one did.

Entry # 29, thank you very much. Wow, automatic top 30?? ;)

ahhh... have 2 shots I love, both processed, not sure which is best :/ oh the drama.

One thing I've learned today: You need a very sturdy tripod and no wind at all if you want to shoot HDR landscapes. Even the smallest movement of branches is visible when you combine your shots in one HDR file...

Try shooting a cat. :-)

I can see where true multi-file HDR is very limited in the scope for which it can be used.

And I'm in. :-)

Out.

Only recently drove in after a week in LV and three (three?!?!) days getting back.

Good luck to all who enter!!!

BAH! i went out today with the idea to specifically get something for this challenge. Filled 1Gb card yet i cant seem to get anything of any good quality. hope to see some impressive stuff. I will continue to play around with this and see if i can get anything decent from my processing.

I'm in the same boat as Mamba, except I filled up 3 gig. :) I'm thinking I need clouds to make this work well.
11/12/2006 08:11:57 PM · #110
hehe I had clouds and sunset plus other elements and added all together it amounts to less than zero :P they look worse after processing than before ><.
11/12/2006 08:22:31 PM · #111
Well, no clouds or sunsets here, just lots of trees and waving branches. :) I actually uploaded a few of the really bad attempts, but as bad as my average is, it doesn't need this kind of help. :)

I think I'm gonna sit this one out until I figure out how to take a good shot without the added technical challenges. :)

Unfortunately I took this shot last night and didn't get a chance to shoot anything today. It was only one shot so I fiddled around and created 5 seperate shots of this, each one darkened more than the last.

For instance, I started with my original and then made a copy with the brightness at -10%, did the same by intervals of -10% for the remaining three images. Then I basically ran 5 of them them through Photomatic by clicking pretty much all the boxes and kept everything at default. I then done basic editting steps with the result, nothing major (sharpen, noise, etc.)

Is that a requirement? :-)

Those are actually quite good. I'm beginning to rethink my submission.
Nah. It's in and it's stayin' in.

Drove for an hour this morning to get the perfect shot. Tripod moved ever so slightly when I was taking the shots, the shots won't auto line up, I don't know how to line them up afterwards. So, I'm out.

Please be more specific! I would love to know how you did this.

You only took one set of shots? Dang, dude, shoot lots! :-)

I'm starting to think HDR is nothing more than a "Landscape Draganizer" utilizing more highlight than dark tones. It would be interesting to see a good draganizer attempt next to an HDR image. I'd suspect you'd get very similar results. Anyone tried this?

I could barely stand after that first set of shots. Driving a stick shift that is that low to the ground hurts. It hurts to get into it, it hurts to turn the key to start, it hurts to shift, it hurts to get out. Hopefully, I'll be able to move around more this upcoming week.

Maybe you should trade cars with someone for a week. Better yet, stay home and recuperate. :-)

That was my first time out of the house all week.

Got lots of pictures of the inside of your house yet? :-) How long are you supposed to be at home, by the way? And can you add a little gaussian blur to your HDR image to make it look intentionally unaligned? :-)
11/12/2006 10:34:54 PM · #122
OK, I couldn't stand it. I did my own version of HDR by taking a single image and doing 3 different exposures/layers. I think it's pretty cool myself.

He, he, he, I decided I'm gonna learn this sucker, and make it work! Gonna make it work! Problem is, didn't get much of a good picture today. Oh well. But I'm IN. I'M IN!!!!!

Bummed out that we had this challenge on a LDR day. :(

Sitting it out as well as B&W. I just realized I only shot abstracts this week :(

What's wrong with B/W abstracts?
