If you're not sure where you are in the political spectrum you might enjoy taking the quiz linked from this thread: Where are you on the political spectrum?
(Linking the thread in an attempt to keep from hijacking this one.)

If you're talking about the Senate race, I did the same thing. At first I considered going with Ford but after the debates and continued commercials of lies that were already explained I knew that I couldn't. To be perfectly honest, like the majority of politicians, I don't trust either of them but voted for who I believed to the most of the less sincere :D

Me too, and if were any other Ford, I wouldn't have voted for him, but Corker ran a really nasty personal attack campaign in West TN so likewise I went with the perceived better candidate only I preferred Ford, Jr.

Actually in most cases it was the parties running the bad ads and not so much the two candidates. Each did have a couple of objectionable ones, IMO, but some of the party ones on both sides were really really ugly.

Edit: I too will just be so glad the mudslinging will be over after tonight (until the next election that is).

Double Edit: Corker campaigned hard enough here though as of late to make a major point swing in his favor in a mere 2 weeks. Ford was up by 2-3 points two weeks ago and as of yesterday Corker was favored by as much as 15 points.

Sorry about my useless posturing. Let me just lay it out plain.

Usually there is no real difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats are supposed to be Tax and Spend and Republicans are supposed to be Less Government. Well, both parties are Spend More Than You Tax.

So normally, your choice is just an illusion. But at this point in history, the Republicans have fallen under the sway of a small group of radical neocons. They just passed a law allowing the President to arrest and torture anyone he wants at any time, without any due process. Our Constitution is at risk. Regardless of your party, you should vote the Republicans out of power. This will probably cause them to clean up their act and then you can vote for them in the next election.

Watch this before you vote:

Some of the folks from our current administration are featured.

posthumous- That has to be the most total bunch of bunk I have ever read. To make such a broad sweeping statement about a party is nothing short of ludicrious and really just goes to show that you must not know any Republicans in real time. We are as varied and diverse as the complete spectrum of beliefs that exist.

I guess that's like Iraqi's saying all Americans are evil. Or us saying all Muslims are terrorists. You have to wonder where propaganda like this originates. Fear & Ignorance, that's where.

Well then you suck and I hate you! Think like me or get the hell out of my country!! :P

I thought the commercial that the RNC did with the chick saying, "call me Harold" at the end was plain stupid but I really didn't see the racism that the Democrats ran with. In fact, I thought it to be a bit hypocritic to call it racism just because a white girl said it. Just like the Republicans running around with Kerry's mix up. I knew what he meant when he said it but in print it could (and does) look like he was talking about the troops rather than the President. However, I just can't understand for the life of me why any Democrat would want Kerry speaking in the first place. He's already cost them one huge election that was ripe for the picking.

I probably didn't see the commercials that aired in west Tn that you're talking about. What got my attention here was, during the debates, when Ford refused to answer about his father lobbying him on the "don't you talk about my daddy" reply. After a bit, Corker's hiring of illegal immigants came up and we found out that a contractor Corker hired was the employer of the immigrants. The INS also said Corker handled it correctly but Ford still continued to run commercials based on the assumption that most people (and probably true) didn't watch the debates. I felt this to be deliberately misleading and really stuck in my craw.

On the other hand, if I'd have seen some of the things you saw in west TN I might be singing a different tune. Shame isn't it? We can't decide on who to vote for based on what we know they would do for us but rather on who we think the biggest bullshitter is?

Anywho, good to know you fellow Tennessean. I hope whoever gets it is sincere in his duties. I can tell you that I won't be holding my breath.

nah... i saw the same ads he did and it just made me more intent on voting AGAINST Ford. if someone from another country came in two weeks before the elections, but their last name was ford, i'd vote against them, just in case there was some slight chance they could be distantly related.

but i'm just two cube walls from dallasdux... i could give him a beat down for you if you'd like... ;) (hi adam!)

Pardon me while I open this large can of whoop-a$$ on Kudzu in the other cube!

I think that all career politicians and lawyers should be rounded up and shot. Does that make me a liberal or a conservative? ;P

After voting in a few challenges here lately I felt I had done my part, so I let my wife vote my election ballot. She's easily amused.

Joe Piscopo and Mario Andretti. Who does Clint want you to vote for?

I think it was someone named McPherson who is running for Secretary of State (California). Clint told me what a great guy McPherson (?) is. I listened for about fifteen seconds and then hung up. Arnold and John McCain didn't surprise me too much, but Clint really had me going for a little bit. 8)

If you are in favor of capitol punishment, you are probably conservative. :)

I voted a week ago! :) And I voted against ALL the AHoles that kept sending junk to me, ran attack ads on each other and spoke nothing of the issues. Glad I am an Independent and am smart enough to choose MY public officials on their merit and what I agree with them on, not if they have Dumbass or Rectal Wart behind their name.
Wish we could have no affiliation or name shown for the candidate, just their stance on the issues. Or even better, vote on THE issues and then the candidate that matches those most closely wins. That may too complicated for many though. :)

Glad I did vote last week...long lines today, and people already complaining they "can't" vote. Meaning they don't want to wait. EVER HEARD OF MAIL IN AND EARLY VOTING? I waited about 30 minutes when I voted. heheehehee.

From what I've heard a lot of people caught on to that aspect. So they'd cold call for the other candidate

That statment is a prime example of what is wrong with this country, we have to slap a one word description on everybody. Whether it be, Liberal, Conservitive, Hippie, Freak, Nut, Terrorist, Radical.... When did that start?

Have American attention spans shrunk to a single word?

There was a joke in my Modern History text (boy that was years ago)...

It went like this- I should google this, but I am lazy today.

A representative from France was asked about his dreams for his country,
he replied- "I hope that my country will be known for great artists".

A representative from England was asked about his dreams for his country, he replied- "I hope that my country will be known for great writers"

A representative from Russia was asked about his dreams for his country, he replied- "I hope my neighbors cow dies."

The point of this was a feeling that animosity in Russia had reached such a point that they had ceased to care about the concerns of the country as a whole and had focused so tightly on their own pettiness. Which as history would show when the Soviet Union collapsed was basically true.

So did I.
Who started this? Isn't time for this thread to moved to the rant section?

Hey, my mom got calls from some of those folks too! What are the odds...

I did NOT vote today - why? Because I'll be out of the state for the next three years - it's not for me to choose who these folks have to put up with. But had I voted, I'd have voted for Kinky. :-)

How about a compromise people? Here in NY we have a third party candidate running for governor with a little something for everyone...
