Wrap translated [img] tags with an appropriately classed div and limit the width/height of said div to something reasonable; don't forget to set the overflow for the div. Images that are small enough needn't be so wrapped.

I think this is sort of where we were going with the introduction of the thumbnail tag - I realise it isn't exactly the same thing but its trying to tackle a similar issue

I thought the thumbnail tag was intended for convenience only, making more efficient a process which is both tedious (for most) and confusing (for some). People still continue to link to large images on other sites, like pbase. The large image issue is fairly easily solved.

Even when I link to pBase, I only post the thumbnail image. They make it rediculously easy to do; just interpose "/small" between the image's ID number and the .jpg suffix.

If we're going to ban full-sized postings, I think a simple announcement on the front page asking people to only post small images in the threads with links to the full-sized images, and informing them of the new [thumb] tags, would take care of most of the problem.

We can always give people a time limit to "shape up" and then start hiding the posts (or the images).

Pbase was only an example. It's a bit of stretch to interpret my suggestion as a ban on full-sized postings (that's easy to do though), but a more reasonable (forced) use of screen real estate seems appropriate. The dpreview forums do something in that way. Announcements are only useful for the current user base (and perhaps not even then) and new users are not likely to know about these past announcements.

Apathy rules.

If you go look at the Home page you'll see that those announcements stay posted (and ignored) for quite a while.

I just prefer asking people to cooperate instead of taking up valuable programming time with something which can be dealt with voluntarily.

Yeah, and they go unread for just as long, not to mention those announcements are an altogether different sort. Anyway, the "valuable programming time" is about as long as it would take to write the announcement.

Anyway, let's lock this yes-no-yes-no-yes-no thread, it's really boring.
