I recently came upon 20/20 MD, a very strong photo correction plugin for Adobe photoshop, and compatable filter based programs. They claim that their process is easier, faster, and more successful than using photoshop's native adjustments. I downloaded their demo, and tested it. It does everything they claim. I can do in 30 seconds, what would take about 10-30 minutes otherwise. This is definitely worth checking out.

Well, I had a look at the plug-in. I can see how it can be useful for some people but it isn't something that I am going to use. I made several comparisons with photos that I first edited using my regular methods and then compared them to the 20/20 versions and in each case I liked mine better. I find tht my methods are more controllable and easier to adjust. This plug-in mainly deals with color issues for use on photos that really need that kind of correction and for that it does a decent job but most of my photos are already pretty good in their color balance that they don't require much effort to tweak anyway. For color balance problems I will either use the Variations tool in PS or the hue slider in the Hue/Adjustments menu.
